  1. Good luck with the boards. Yes that is very true--even though people are in house--staying on the recruiter is a must. I also learned that managers and recruiters have different agendas. I was offered the job by a manager--the nurse recruiter stepped in and everything got real crazy. She wanted me to take a different shift and had all the reasons why I should. But in the end the managers decision won. Thank God!!!!! Most of the graduating class I was in started interviewing in January. Half of the evening program had jobs secured before taking the boards. Many of them are taking the boards next week and start work the following. We were told in one our classes that we needed to get out there and market ourselves early. I hope it works out for you.
  2. I hear ya on this one! Recent graduate also. I do have a position at the hospital I work at. But I applied to several others and nothing. But like someone had mentioned to me. Union (not sure if it only applies to them) hospitals have to advertise outside even though they are hiring from within. Not sure how that actually works. But a funny one is that I applied for an RN position on line at a hospital in New Hampshire. I got a call last week from this hospital and they wanted to know if I was interested in a data processing position. Not sure how that came about--but I would like a nursing position please!
  3. Yes we did lose people. We lost 8 after nursing 2. Grades were below passing (73). Those spaces were then filled with wait list and LPN's. We had 4 that either didn't finish nursing 4 or didn't graduate because of their average. It's definitely not easy. I can't say that I saw any of the nursing student wearing crocs. Many of us had some sort of nursing shoe or clog--or white sneakers. Whatever you pick it must be white. You may want to ask about the crocs before you buy them. Are you going to your nursing orientation next week? Might want to ask then. Good luck with micro. Don't know the name you are having.
  4. Good luck with Micro this summer both of you! Do you know who you have yet?? I am a recent graduate and Im enjoying some time off but also studying for the boards. Yes there is a lot of reading. I found it necessary to read everything. You will find there are some that never open a book. I just can't learn that way. I needed all the help and info I could get. Nursing 1 and 3 were my best semesters. The nursing program or any nursing program takes a lot of time and effort. It can be very stressful--just stay focused and the two years will fly by. I wish you both luck. If you have any questions feel free to ask. Ladybugsea thank you for keeping me posted!
  5. Start one up in the student forum. I'll follow you over!! Not to many people had the PDA's. The few that did had the meds in them and the tabers. I guess thats up to you. Most of the instructors do give handouts that go along with the powerpoints. But instructors sometimes don't last. So you may get one that doesn't give them out. Which did happen to us and they talk so fast your head spins. But most of them will work with you and try their hardest to accomodate. Great you will absolutely love your maternity rotation if thats what you want to do. It's in Salem, Ma at the The Birth Place. And she is also the lecturer when you get to that area. Piece of cake with her exams. The facility though in Salem is very nice. You will see v. births, c-sections, special care nursery, regular nursery. You won't actually be doing much there. You will have opportunity to coach a mom and hold babies. Just be aware you may not get this to until Nursing 4. I had it in 3. The hardest part was in Nursing 3 and 4 when clinicals start at 4. Some instructors try to get you to come in a 3. But if the whole group of 8 have a problem with this--then it's a no go. Let me know where you start your thread. I think we accidentally hijacked this one. Although she is a NECCO student.
  6. Yes-there is a study guide that goes with your med surg books. Buy it!!! Got mine online. Sometimes you will see test questions from it--but it's good to study with. Always do the questions at the end of the chapters. I taped most lectures. Nursing 1 and 3 were my best semesters. Nursing 2 and 4 were very stressful. Get a study group together. It does help. Just make sure you use that time and everyone is compatible. If you work cut back now. There were people that worked full time right up until the end--but with difficulty. Feel free to bounce thoughts or questions off me. Im glad it's over--but it was well worth it.
  7. Maybe you could try Ben's Uniforms in Amesbury. Good Luck in September. Just graduated from NECCO. It was a long haul-but is going to bo so worth it.
  8. This is a great thread. Im going to be working a 32 hour position 11p to 7 am. I believe it will be rough in the beginning but hopefully it will work out. Just have to get into a schedule.
