North Vista or Sunrise

Ok, so soon I will need to pick my preceptorship site. I can't quite decide between North Vista or Sunrise. I'm doing clinicals at both right now and like them both. The staff at both seem very friendly. Anyone have any input? As wherever you get a preceptorship at is probably going to offer you a job afterwards its a kinda important choice.

I would go with the one that can offer you the best opportunity for orientation, and the unit you want to work. If you don't like it you can always switch to the other. Don't forget to account for transporation time to and from work, and benifits offered.

I'm in orientation right now for UMC and there are about 6-7 nurses in my orientation group who just left North Vista because they said it was a horrible place for nurses. They were all on either med surg or NICU. They said the management isn't very good and the ratios are really, really bad. I'm a new grad, but I've never done anything at North Vista, so I don't have any first hand experiences there. I was just surprised that out of the 14 RNs in my orientation group, half of them were from North Vista, and UMC does orientation every 2 weeks, so it's pretty frequent.

Hello.. I work @ NV.

-Yeah the ratios can suck, but better then the 8-10 pts I saw my preceptor @ Sunrise get.

At NV I average 6 pt.

-Yes, the NM is tough, but fair. A lot of pp don't care for here b/c she isn't afraid to tell it like it is. The RN's that came from NV... bet they were from T2 M/S.. NM *issed off several I heard.

-Yes the work is hard. The pt load is heavy (it is everywhere) but I have had the BEST clinical experience that I could have ever asked for @ NV!

- I did my clinicals @ Sunrise (great preceptor & great experience) for my last semester & they never called me 1x for an interview & I applied for at least 4-6 diff positions! Yet, I recall 1 day there was only 1 RN covering for a whole floor (I believe) he said he had 20pts needing IVP's?? SCARY! If they are not willing to hire & train new RNs how will we become experienced??

-Good Luck!... geeze.. Dee is it already getting close to 4th semester??? Glad to see you are still around! PM me & perhaps we can talk & u can decide for yourself (I promise to be unbias; HONEST! :icon_rollI keep telling a close LPN friend to apply @ Sunrise tee heee)

Hi there-- Sunrise all the way!! I have been here for 12 years, and would not go anywhere else. People are great:heartbeat, hospital is union and its not in the Valley system!!! I know North Visa is reconstructing it's image, but...it's a no brainer for me.
