Duke ABSN Fall 2015

Just wanted to get a thread going for those who are applying to the Fall 2015 ABSN program. What are some of your degrees in? Is anyone applying to other schools? Also, is anyone planning on moving to North Carolina to attend?

Hey warriortac and others who will be reading this eventually,

I am planning to apply to Duke ABSN Program for Fall 2015. I have B.S. in Biology and is a resident of NC. I have started to apply to WSSU ABSN Program but wasn't sure if WSSU is a great school to attend. The reviews that I've read on internet about the school and the area is kind of low.

Anyway, I am curious about the GPA requirement for the ABSN Program at Duke. I have a GPA of 3.353. Is that still considered as 3.4? I know some schools do not round GPAs... But I also have 3.783 on my transfer associate degree, but I've noticed that some schools tend to use only the GPA from the most recent school and they do not average GPAs from all schools attended. Anybody knows if Duke SON will average the GPAs and about whether if they will round the GPA?

Hi beckerz002!

I have a B.A. in Anthropology and an Associates in Science. My undergrad GPA is a 3.3 and my associates GPA is a 3.6 or 3.7 (can't remember lol). I am interested to know too if they combine these?? I won't have time to prep for and take the GRE before the Dec. 1st deadline. So, I am hoping they mesh the two together.

I currently live in Michigan, so I would definitely have to move upon acceptance. I am also applying to a few other schools that are out-of-state. Do you have all the prerequisites completed? This is stressful applying to all of these schools!

I have met all the prerequistes required for Duke ABSN Program. I am trying to decide whether I should take other classes that are required for a few other ABSN programs offered in NC such as Nutrition and Ethics. I hate to think I would waste my time taking these classes when I might be rejected by the programs that require those. What are other schools have you applied to? I am going to try UNC-Chapel Hill too when the application cycle opens again.

I still have to take Statistics for Duke. I already took Nutrition and I have taken Medical Ethics. I am applying to Villanova in Pennsylvania. A friend of mine went there and she is now at UPENN for her Masters. She loved it and I heard their program is amazing. Villanova requires some religion credits so I taking a class now. I will also apply here in Michigan; I am applying to UDM and Wayne State. I was also looking at University of Tennessee. Though, Duke and Villanova are actually my top choices. I just need to get into a program next year, so I am open to move as long as its within 8-9 hours of Michigan as a drive….

Hey!

I have applied to Duke for the Fall semester. I'm living in Seattle. My undergraduate degree was in Political Science, with a GPA of 3.91. My GPA for my science prerequisites is 3.95. I'm very keen to hear from Duke, but I've also applied to Johns Hopkins, MGH in Boston, University of Washington, OHSU in Portland, and a few other schools. The hardest part of applying was the introspection required for writing the essays needed for the application. Once you apply, Duke responds with an email that provides access to a fantastic portal that allows you to view the status of your application and to see whether the transcripts and other supporting documents have been received. I've just ordered my transcripts to be delivered to Duke.

For those like me who are wondering if Duke will combine the grades from all schools and if the GPA will be rounded, I got the response to an email from Duke SON:

"Thank you for your interest in the Duke School of Nursing. When the GPA's are calculated we do not round up. It is a cumulative GPA from all schools attended. Hope this helps. Have a great day!"

Hi all,

I'm in the process of applying to the Duke ABSN program for Fall 2015. The personal statements are killing me! I feel so much pressure to get them perfect. Any advice, MzJazBerri?

I had a similar anxiety about the personal statements. I haven't yet been accepted, so the weight of my advice is only as a fellow applicant. Take a few days to reflect on each of the essays, to make sure that they are sincere and, most importantly, that they thoroughly answer the questions. The Admissions Committee would like to know the events that motivate you to join the profession, the things that you have learnt about yourself and about nursing, your ability to think critically and assertively and what about YOU would make you a great fit for the specific program at Duke University. Overthinking it does not help. Write it bit by bit over the course of a few days as ideas come to you, and make sure it's natural and genuine.

I am a male student applying Fall 2015. My undergraduate GPA is a 3.4 in Human Development. My GRE score was a 153 Verb (59th percentile) and 153 Quant (50th percentile), and this equates to an 1180 total score using their old scoring methods. Vanderbilt is my first choice, but Duke is my second and I'm anxious thinking about it!
