NorCal student-can I participate in clinicals??!

Published

I'm now admitted into a LVN program that starts in a few weeks. I'm concerned that I won't be able to participate in "clinical at a state hospital",specifically a peds rotation.

Details: petty theft charge 3years ago, deferred prosecution..then later had charges dismissed after completing 1 month of 6month community service (in North Carolina )

has anyone been in this situation ?

Sidenote :I transferred my CNA to CA and had to complete a livescan. I called and asked if it's all clear..they said yes and they just need work history.

If the livescan came back clear and the charges were dismissed, I do not think you have anything to worry about. Livescan does not hide information. To be frank the only thing you would possibly have to worry about is at licensing if they ask if you have ever been arrested. Although you can legally say you have not been convicted of a crime, you may have to answer yes to the arrest question (if you were arrested). Good luck! I am fairly certain you are free and clear. Like I said, if there was anything on your record, Livescan would have found it and you would have been notified.

Hi,

it is really up to your LVN program if theyll let you participate in clinical with your issues. but, i don't see a problem since you had completed a pre-trial diversion and charges were drop. it is always good to get a copy of your criminal history to see if the DOJ has the updated information since they don't always update it, have them do so if it is not. so that when it comes time to apply for nclex with the boards you'll be ready.
