any non traditional students here?

Published

I have met more and more people like me who are going back to school to get into nursing programs.

I am a non-traditional student, 37 years old..been a SAHM for about 13 years, but in the workforce for the past year. I didn't finish school the first time and now I'm starting back next week. I figured out I have about 8 classes to do to apply to the Nursing program.

I am already working in LTC full time, so I think it will take me 3 or 4 semesters to finish those up. I think I'm at a disadvantage with time, but I've got an advantage with a bit of mileage under my belt if you know what I mean. My oldest son and I can commute to college together next year.

Anybody else?

I am excited for you. Going back to school after a long time away was the best thing I've ever done. Enjoy it. Make the most of it. Take that wisdom and make it work for you. I'll keep a prayer out there for you. Here's to hoping all of us waiting on pins and needles for the coveted acceptance letters actually get them!

Another non traditional student, 2 children - soon to be 18yo and 16yo; my daughter is filling out college applications and I'm filling out nursing school applications! Too Funny - we are both waiting to hear where we got in! I've been married 20 years and always homeschooled my children, along with working here and there.....currently taking my last pre req this semester (A&P II again - took it 16 years ago)

Adding myself to the group!

I am 46 yo and will be 48 by the time I finish. I am a USAF vet married to SCANG-AGR soldier. Oldest (23 yo) is a combat medic who returned from her second Iraq tour two weeks ago. She will be out Apr 7th and joining me at school to get her nursing degree! Son, 21, FCCJ A&P Maintenance student. Son 20, FCCJ HVAC Tech student. Daughter 19, Criminal Justice @ UNF, 16 yo in HS....plus Step-son 22 USArmy MP, Step-daughter 19, student a Greenville Tech, Step-daughter 16 in HS and Step-son 12.

I spent 8 yrs as a "rocket scientist" and 17 in IT. Have a BE-EE (Bach in Engineering). Minored in Physics. Back for a new career!

Non-trad here too! Nervous and hopeful. Good luck to you all. I'm really glad to hear from a few over-40s here!
