Read how Scottsdale Healthcare Systems are now contributing to unfair hiring practices. I am an RN with 5 months experience, mutli-state privileges, no action pending on my license, etc--graduated from a new school in Phoenix (there are several now). I graduated top of my class and have a Bachelor's degree in Psychology. AZ has a severe nursing shortage, and this is their newest was of contributing to said shortage. I applied for a new grad job on a med/surg/tele floor.
Pretty ridiculous, in my opinion.
Dear Jennifer,
Thank you for your interest in our New Grad Nurse position at Scottsdale Healthcare. We appreciated the opportunity to review your application/resume. At the present time, we have decided to pursue other candidates with experience and qualifications that more closely align with the needs of the position.
Unfortunately, you graduated from a non-NLN accredited school. Our job description requires having graduated from a school with NLN accreditation.
We wish you success in your employment endeavors.
Sincerely,
Scottsdale Healthcare Employment
my response:
Dear Scottsdale Healthcare Employment,
The nursing school I graduated from was approved by the Arizona State Board of Nursing. It takes a couple years before a new school can become NLN recognized. Pima Medical Institue, Apollo, and several other schools that are new and trying to help with the nursing shortage are not accredited by NLN for the same reason.I have an Arizona state license and I have never heard that Scottsdale Healthcare Systems would turn away a candidate that has a current license from a state approved school. According to the NLN site, Arizona State University isn't even NLN accredited.
I am completely qualified and eager to work for your hospital and I would appreciate that you would take what I have written into consideration.
Thanks for your time,
Jennifer M. RN (and it's a genuine RN)

Bummer! I have heard that Scottsdale Healthcare is a pretty good place to work. It is just too far for me to drive to though. Does this mean that they also do not hire ASU BSN graduates too?
Are you unhappy at your current place of employment?

Wow, that's crazy! I've never heard of such a thing either.
AZ may have a nursing shortage, but not all hospitals around here do. Scottsdale may not be in major need of nurses, as everyone I've heard from that works there loves it.
You said you've been a nurse for 5 months, are you just looking for something different?
