Non-Impacted Nursing Schools

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Updated:   Published

California has the largest population of nursing student hopefuls in our region. Some schools have several hundred applicants for as few as 20 or 40 seats. With all of my prerequisites complete and GPA of 3.51 I am considering schools in other states. I can move anywhere since I have no obstacles that would prevent me from moving. The most important things to me in a nursing school is ratio of student / instructor, pass rate of grads on their first NCLEX, tuition, and the RATIO OF SEATS AVAILABLE / APPLICANTS. Please feel free to give me your best suggestions across the nation, either a school that you have attended or one you have heard about. Also include your experience at your school and any other advice you feel would be helpful.

I am looking for a great school! ?

I can go to any US State so don't be shy with your suggestions. AZ, NM, AK, AL FL, WY. Just tell where you believe the choices are.

As of two years ago, Citrus College in Glendora, CA bases their acceptance on prerequisite GPA, then on overall GPA. No waiting list. If you have perfect or near perfect A's in your sciences, you have a high chance of acceptance right away. I could have outdated information though so check with them :)

Overall GPA 3.5 and A&P/Micro 3.25. We have a big country with many schools to choose from. Yes I love CA, I have lived in OC all of my life except for 2 years in the northwest. I can come back anytime I want as I am financially stable enough to come and go as I please. I look at a two year commitment at nursing school in another place just a stepping stone towards my goal. My goal is to be a nurse, not to be a Californian. If it happens that I am a nurse in Idaho or Alabama, so be it.

Word of warning for those looking at Minot State: Yes, they have a fairly open and accepting nursing school, it is a great school, and North Dakota is (in my biased opinion) a great state. BUT! The western side of the state is in a huge oil rush, and because of this, cost of living is skyrocketing and housing is nearly impossible to find, as man-camps have been banned in many areas and there are also rules against long-term RVs. So if you are seroius about Minot, look at living in the dorms or on-campus housing. Do your research!

The eastern side of the state has some good nursing schools as well, Devils Lake, Jamestown, and Valley City to name a few. COL is more reasonable, housing is easier to find, and there isn't the increased crime rate like the western side. Look at Dakota Nursing Program for more information...they are a consortium of many different campuses and run a good program. Good pass rates, and they are in the final stages of ACEN.

My biggest BUT is what a said in the first place... it is FREEZING! I have respect for those North Dakota (& military) folk who can brave out those winters. BRRRR... I am cold just thinking about it.

My prereq GPA is a 3.5, my overall GPA is a 3.6. I have applied to about 8 California State Universities. ALL of them rejected me.

Specializes in CNA, LVN, RN.

Did OP eventually find a school?
