non-degree pre-nursing student seeking career advice

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I just recently joined this blog today. I live in Fresno California and have exhausted all my options locally. I've applied and been denied by Fresno City, Fresno State, COS, West Hills, SJVC, San Jauquin Delta, and also TWU in Texas. I have attended Fresno State for 2 years and have about 60 units of prerequisites mainly for nursing. I have also been certified as a CNA. I just can't catch a break. I have taken the Teas twice and got a 64% and a 66%. My overall GPA is a 3.53 and I've taken almost all nursing prerequisites with a B or better.

My main goal is to become an RN but I'm feeling let down. I've looked into surgical technology at SJVC, but it seems like the cost isn't worth it because they don't make that much money. I was thinking maybe I should go back to Fresno State and get a Bachelors in something but I'm not too sure if it's worth it. Im about to turn 22 and need some guidance. Any suggestions or advice would be much appreciated. I want to start something ASAP

Thanks so much!

Hi, I could suggest that you apply to a few schools in Oklahoma ( thats where I live). I graduated from a CC in Allied Health got denied from 3 nursing schools. Just when I was about to give up I applied to two universities ( Langston Univ. BSN program and Rogers State ASN & BSN) and Radiologic Programs. I got into both by the way my gpa is 3.5 as of now I had to take a few extra classes for the bachelor program but its worth it. I chose langston because it was way cheaper and I got a scholarship. I would really suggest you apply to a few schools in Oklahoma I got denied my first year applying to nursing school but I start 2013 in January. Don't give up you can do it...apply to other medical fields. I will start nursing school at the age of 22 as well Good Luck

Is there any way you can apply to schools outside of CA and TX? I would try to look else where outside of CA because I know how tough it is to get into their nursing programs.
