NOC with kids home for summer break?

so, I'm a new grad, have been applying for jobs for several weeks and had pretty much resigned myself that it would take me 3-6 months to find a job (since that seems to be the norm in my area) Imagine my (excited) surprise when I got a call for an interview for a job this week! I'm obviously crazy excited at the prospect, but I'm also left a bit anxious. I had anticipated that any job I got as a new grad, I'd be working nights - which I'm totally okay with, and actually want. This job is full time 11-7. However, I had been expecting that I woudn't actually *get* a job until after my kids were back in school in Sept, and then I'd sleep while they were in school (and next summer I'd have plenty of time to enroll them in camp so I could have hubby drop them off in the morning, I'd sleep, and then pick them up in the late afternoon) But if I get this job, what do I do about sleep + the kids THIS summer?! It's too late to enroll them in any camps, they're all full. How do you handle nights and sleep with kids home in the summer? I'd appreciate any tips/advice/been-there-done-that you can share :)

interview today went fantastic!! woohoo :) Have to meet with the ADON on the 30th to determine which unit will be a good fit. She said I can start orientation in mid-August, and the first 3 weeks will be on days (7-3) so I don't have to worry about kids+sleep, because by the time I'll go to nights they'll already be back in school :) I am going to hire my friend's college-age daughter to supervise them while I'm on orientation - ince I won't need them to be quiet at home while I sleep, she can have them here at the house.

Thanks everyone for the encouragement and suggestions!

what happened to the night only orientation?glad things went well!

I asked the same question, lol! She said that the first three weeks is classroom/inservice training so that's why it's days, and then the actual floor orientation is on the shift you'll work (ie: nights for me).

yes the hospital orientation is done inthe day shift and the floor orientation done on tbe shift you were hired for. are you sure they checked your refernces and did a criminal check, that usually takes a couple of weeks, otherwise if done they can make an offical offer on the 30th.

I know they checked references for sure, because one of the references (a clinical instructor) emailed me after they spoke, to wish me luck on the interview. I don't know definitively that they did the criminal background check, because I did not see it, but that is what I was told by HR. Either way, they should have it when I go back on the 30th :)

Your kids are old enough to leave you alone while you sleep. You might even pay the older two to babysit -- but they only get paid if they keep the noise down and don't trash the house. ;-) Try to schedule (if you can) to not work 3 days in a row, and try to schedule work when hubby's at home. You can wake up at around 3, take them to the pool or bike riding or something. Reward then with movies or other outings on your days off.

I went to the pool by myself when I was 10...easy to drop them off and pick them up later.
