No RN License # But Passed NCLEX

So I took the NCLEX-RN and I passed! First try, 265 questions, did the PVT then got quick results. Now... 2 weeks later, the MBON website still says "pending" for my RN# I called, emailed and finally got someone to answer me. They said "it's up to the examination unit" but I don't understand what that means. I already took the test and PASSED so what could the examination unit possibly be "deciding" about? So confused...

The PVT trick doesn't work anymore and it's not confirmatory. If you paid the 7.95 for quick results and it said pass, realize that is your "unofficial" result. There could be a backup in the system from paperwork or an influx of new nurses, and your "official" results just haven't been updated on the state website.

Here's the official page from NCSBN concerning official and unofficial results. https://www.ncsbn.org/after-the-exam.htm

Hope you find out soon!

In several states passing the NCLEX is just one step in the process and not a guarantee of a license.

PVT is nothing more than a registration glitch

I know a candidate that passed the NCLEX and was subsequently denied licensing as nurse... in her case a pesky felony conviction caused the denial

In NJ once the NCLEX is passed and finger prints/background check is received the application packet is then reviewed by board licensing committee. Post NCLEX & fingerprinting its 3-5 weeks for a license to be issued.

When I called MBON they said I did pass but examination unit had "1 or 2 more things to do before issuing" my license. My job starts Monday and I still have no license #. Maryland doesn't issue paper licenses, only online and phone verifications. This hold up could cost me my job 😯

Did you ask what is possibly missing? This way you know it's a BoN issue or something that you can submit.

She said there is nothing else on my end required other than patience. That's hard tho considering my new job won't wait for the BON to do what it is that they are doing. I'm even more confused about the holdup being in the examination unit if I've already taken and passed the exam.

I'm bored not watching my son wrestle (I must be here but I'm not supposed to watch. His other team I sit in the hall with tape, gloves & gauze for cuts & nosebleeds)

It simply may be that processing of license takes longer than 2 weeks.

Remember, you are not the only person applying for a license and nursing isn't the only profession that gets licenses. You got the real estate agents, the home inspectors, the architects, the respiratory therapists, etc., etc., etc.

Be patient and expect a good 4-6 weeks for your license. You are not the only person applying for one and your State Government isn't going to hire extra people this time every year because a bunch of people want their license numbers assigned yesterday.

So....did the license come through yet?
