Is anyone else finding it frustrating that Dr. orders are snowing pt's with drugs and not considering any alternative cares. I know it is my place to follow the order, or to attempt some optional treatments...it would just be nice to see some support from the Docs. Maybe if I treated them to lunch three times a month, I could compete with the drug reps. Don't get me wrong I see a tremendous use for pharmacology with acute care, it just frustrates me that chronic treatments are being suggested without exploring alternative roads. AAAARRRRRGGHHHHH!!!!!! I'm frustrated! Or am I crazy?

There are a few docs out there, including here in Dhaka, Bangladesh. I just saw an ortho doc last night (7pm appt) who told me that he didn't like to give drugs because they don't "cure" the problem and just "kill your kidneys." Needless to say, I was surprised!

I think that has partially to do with the relationship between pharaceutical companies and doctors, and also the insufficient exploration of alternative therapy (although IMO, I think some of them are a little wacky). Everything must be scientifically based. And some alternative therapies have not held up in a scientific study, which probably makes doctors a little gun shy to use it.

Mehmet Oz, the doc who wrote "You: The Owner's Manuel" is a cardiologist who DOES look at other ways to help his patients, and it appears he sensibly joins eastern/western medicine.
