With everything that was needed during school (books, etc.) and like alot of us I was still supporting a family while in school, somehow I have found myself in the position of haing finished school (Valedictorian! ) and the exit exam (900) only to find I don't have the money for boards. Any suggestions?

Ummmm a job? Even McDonald's wouldn't take long to earn a few hundred dollars.

hi,
[color=#483d8b]maybe you could work part-time in your local mall to save up some for the exam. with the holidays coming up, i am sure many many part-time/seasonal positions will open up. maybe the money you save will also help with christmas shopping. you could even work a few hours in the evening if your at home during the day with your children. this is just a suggestion.

It's hard getting back in the swing of things but i didn't have the money as well. I had to get back to work and just paid for it when i could. The job you want will come but until then work anywhere for now and earn it slowly

If your state has Graduate Nurses (GN) I would suggest becoming one. You can very quickly make money at a nurse's salry, while working in the hospital in the capacity of a nurse.
Thanks, I guess I forgot to mention I am actively looking for a job. But good news I finally got a job offer after who knows how many resumes, "overqualified" (McDonald's), and "come back when you pass boards". So fourtune smiles upon me.
Thats great news! Now save up for your exam and pass the NCLEX~!
The GN programs here in St. Louis are for the RN's, I'm a LPN right now, however I did finally find a job at a nearby nursing home and thanks be praised!!! they are willing to not only pay for my bopards but my Kaplan course as well. To all stay positive, it seems things have a way of working themselves out.

I was in the same boat. I am almost done with school and did not have any money. I took a private duty caregiver case and though it isn't much it is helping with all of the fees associated with boards and all of the application and finger printing fees. I will start as a GN in a month and a half but I wanted to have everything paid for before then. Sometimes you have to do what you have to do.

My counties career center also called workforce essentials paid for mine. It's a government grant given to them and I don't have to pay it back. I don't even have to pay them or take a job from them. They were a true blessing for me. Check with a career center in your area or surrounding counties. Good luck angie.nursesrule
