No luck in finding Nursing job.

Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

I'm an LVN student (army vet) and I'll be graduating July but I've applied to about 15 different places for positions. None of them will hire an LVN nurse fresh outa school. Well I did get like 5 calls from the places I applied to only for them to congratulate me on my pending graduation and to call them when I get a years experience. Yeah, it seems like all the nursing jobs out there either require an RN, or at least 1yrs experience. Its mind boggling how one gets the experience without getting the job. Gee!! can u say frustration? Any ideas? from anybody?

There are LPN jobs here in Maryland.

Specializes in CVICU and Trauma.

I'm not sure where you're from, but I'm from CA and I can definitely say there are a ton of jobs out there for a new LVN grad. I have had my license in hand for just over a month, been on 14 interviews (acute, mental health, LTC, correctional nursing, etc), and I have had been offered the job at ALL of them. My biggest stress has been trying to choose which one.

I think it's all in how you sell yourself. You need to creatively revise your resume & cover letter as well as your knowledge to fit that exact job you are applying for. I know it is insanely time consuming but it pays off. Make them see that you are the only possible candidate for that position. Don't be cocky, but be confident. Show them you have done your homework and that you are serious about spending a great deal of your career helping to build and grow their company (you don't have to tell them that you really only plan on being there for a year, etc). They have their business objectives they don't tell you, just as you have yours that you don't tell them.

If you would like to take a look at one of my resumes & cover letter (minus my personal contact info of course, lol) or if you are from CA and want a list of the facilities I had my success applying at, just send me a private message. I'm happy to help.

Anyway, best of luck to you!
