No Jobs for New Grad ADNs

U.S.A. Georgia

I live in SC but have been planning to move to the Atlanta area after graduation for some time. I'm a new grad RN (just graduated in May) with an ADN degree and every position I apply for is either "under review" or automatically denied. I've been an LPN for almost 3 years in an outpatient setting and I was an inpatient rehab tech before that.

I've applied to every new grad opening and others that are listed as accepting new grads. However, there's always the dreaded "BSN degree preferred" and I can feel the life being sucked out of me every time I get yet another rejection letter. I even had a referral from an IT administrator to one hospital and still NOTHING! I thought my prior experience would at least count for something. :(

Any other ADNs having this experience? Any advice is welcome!

Specializes in PCT, RN.

Maybe look into places like LTC or clinics (if you haven't already). You'll have more luck in those areas than if you're applying for a hospital position.

Have you looked into residency programs? It might not be because you lack a BSN degree but you might not have the experience they are looking for despite the fact that you've been an LPN for a few years. I know new grads w/ ADN degree's that were recently hired into residency programs. Perhaps in your cover letter you can also indicate how important continuing your education is and that you plan to do a bridge for your BSN in the near future. There could be a lot of factors but don't lose hope!

I've looked into virtually all the residency programs but still nothing.

Maybe Atlanta isn't in the cards right now. :( Have you tried applying locally just to get some RN experience?

Specializes in OR.

I graduated an ADN program in May, and a number of my classmates and I were able to land residency programs in area hospitals. I've heard Northside is staggering their residency applications windows for different departments,so you may want to keep an eye on their website. I know Northeast Georgia absolutely will not hire new grads outside of their residency (and the next application window for that will be in the fall), but depending on how far away from Atlanta you're willing to go, I've heard Athens Regional will entertain applications from ADN grads for open positions. I've also heard that most hospitals in the City of Atlanta are going BSN only.

Have you tried Grady?
