Hi guys, I applied for Licensure by Examination in Cali and I graduated from Philippines last 2009. I'm having a situation now I received a letter from the CA-BRN asking for additional requirements which is the clinical cases. My school told me that they don't have my clinical cases record anymore since it's been more than 5 years. Never did I expect that they would ask for it. What should I do? will they reject my application?.I'm really worried. I hope someone could give me information about this matter. Thanks.

There have been several other posters over the past couple of years in the same situation of not able to obtain the required documents of the clinical cases, so far, none of them have reported back of any success of having the CA BRN approve their application even under the appeals process.
Some stated they weren't approved and others never commented back but most likely they had to let their application expire (if there's no further action of proof, the CA BRN simply considers the application to be abandoned after the third year of the notice date).
The proof of burden lies within the applicant's complete submission of documentation, any shortage of a document will not get "checked off" their list.
Thanks Steppybay for the response..I just don't know what to do whether I will ask my school to write an explanation letter for disposing our file and certify that I completed my cases way back in college to CA-BRN? I don't have an idea if it will help or make the situation complicated.
So, in this particular situation, will the applicant have to retake these courses in order to satisfy the requirement?
Dunno, since the final decision comes from the CA BRN and not from anyone here. I would go ahead and do what you feel may best make your application get approved. Try going via filing an appeal with your documentation and request a hearing.
If you do so, please keep everyone here informed whether they say thumbs up or down. Don't be like other posters who ask for advice only to never hear from them again.
Make sure that you have filed your appeal in writing and within the one year limitation to do so.
It will depend on what the CA BRN comes back at whether it's just 1-2 courses that are deficient or there's just too many classes that needs to be re-taken and the recommendation would be to re-take the entire courses as there's been many who have to go thru that route.
The main reason is that it's not easy to find a school that will offer the needed courses (if the CA BRN needs more than 2 courses) before the expiration of the 3 year limitation to complete those deficiencies.
Remember this applies to any applicants, domestic or foreign, there are plenty of nurses going for the endorsement process from another state (and they are a US educated nurse) only to find they are deficient in a communications, a biology, a chemistry class, etc.

I am currently contacting my school to help me with this matter. I will keep you posted of whatever happens in my application, at least somehow in this way I can give a help to others who are experiencing the same situation. Thanks steppybay.
Hi, I just want to update my post, after a month searching we had found one last copy of my clinical cases and my school send it to the CA-BRN last May. After 2 months of reviewing my documents, I received a mail from them saying I had deficiencies in Medical Surgical And OB courses. Is there anyway that i can appeal for that?. I have a classmate who were able to passed the eligibility in Ca-BRN and we had the same curriculum and almost the same date of clinical cases as well. My hopes are gone, I need advice. Thanks.
Did your classmate apply for the ATT on or before Nov. 2011?
yes, it was before 2011.. I really don't know what to do whether I will complete the deficiencies, I had tried to contact schools in NJ and I can't find any program that's offering ms and ob.
Any PH applicants applying on or before Nov. 2011 was not affected by the stricter concurrency rules that has been in the CA BRN regulations for the past 30 years, nothing has changed since that time, just the mere enforcement month and year of Nov. 2011, which is why your classmate was approved.
There have been many applicants who were approved under the Nov. 2011 deadline, didn't pass the NCLEX and upon their re-application, they were then denied the ATT and had to also meet the concurrency rules.
Don't forget these same exact rules applies to any and all applicants, it applies to all foreign and local and domestic applications, if they didn't meet them.
Why are you looking into courses in NJ to meet the deficiencies? I'm assuming you live there now or will be living there if they are found as none of the deficiencies can be done via any on-line courses, the CA BRN will not approve on-line courses.
