Could anyone give me an idea of the community reputation of the nursing programs at these two schools? Any graduates of these programs?
Many thanks to any who respond ....

I graduated from DABCC with my ADN in 2005, I will graduate from NMSU with my BSN next month. DABCC's nursing program operates similar to the mob and is very unprofessional, there was alot of horrific things going on there when I went to school and it has made the news several times. Getting my BSN at NMSU was completely opposite, it is professional and conveneint for the student (costs more but worth it). They are both the same school (NMSU/DABCC) but I found much more professionalism in the BSN program (neither was easy work, mind you?)

"they are both the same school (nmsu/dabcc)"""
just a clarification" the poster above meant to say that dabcc (doña ana branch community college) is a branch college of new mexico state university but there are 2 separate & distinct nursing schools that are not related at all, are at different locations, have separate faculty, separate courses, separate entry requirements etc, etc. dabcc is associate degree (adn) & nmsu main campus is bachelor's degree (bsn). there are 2 other branch campuses that also have associate degree programs, in alamogordo & carlsbad.
I do mean that they are the same, you apply to the same institution for both and the degrees both say New Mexico State University when you graduate. They are however, different nursing programs, obviously, or I would not have done one and then the other.
I dont know anyone personally that is an international student, Im sorry.
Well actually, they are not the same, not to me. The diploma's may indicate that the "Branch" is part of NMSU.As faculty at NMSU & former faculty at DABCC, I say they are not the same. The community college is related in that it is a "branch" or "feeder" type of school where students can begin basic courses & complete associate degrees in various fields, then transfer to the Main Campus (NMSU) to complete Baccalaureate degrees. DABCC does have some of the best allied health programs in this part of the state. They have:
Radiology tech, Respiratory Therapy, Dental hygienist, Ultrasound tech to name a few. Historically though, both nursing programs originated from the same :Las Cruces LPN school of the late 1960's (?1968/9?).
The original nursing program was an LPN & ADN program. The first class graduated in 1973 from what was then "The Doña Ana Occupational Education Branch" of NMSU. At least that is what is on my LPN diploma from 1977. Funny thing: My Associate Degree from 1979 does say NMSU , nothing about "the Branch" on it!!! & I graduated from "The Branch, not NMSU. 1979 had about 3 -5 BSN graduates. This "career-ladder program" (LPN to ADN to BSN) remained in place until about 1994, when the programs were separated & the ADN placed at the
Branch, the BSN remained on "main campus" at NMSU.
Congrats on completing your BSN. Hope that you do plan to pursue your MSN in the future.
PM me if you would like to meet sometime.:welcome:

I'm at NMSU now, and the program SUCKs! go, run, far, far away. seriously. the professors are 3rd or 4th rate, the curriculum is awful and they don't know how to teach. they're unprepared and it's a huge waste of time. I went here because it was cheap, but it's not worth it.

GreenTree,
I was just accepted into the nursing program at NMSu and am concerned by some
of your post that this nursing school is inadequate. I am supposed to start in January. What program were you accepted in and what year are in if you don't mind sharing. thank you!
Does it really matter which semester I am in? I have heard the same thing from 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th semester students. I guess it's just a systemic infection in the nursing school. Have you applied other places? I'd recommend waiting to see if you get in, and find out what students say. That was my fault for not doing it with NMSU. If you read my post, I have a degree already so I am in the second degree program-Bye "schlgrl" and good luck-whatever you do.

I also have been accepted and am not sure if I want to accept. If you google search you will find that they almost lost their approval from the state's nursing board a few years back because of they had horrible board pass rates. I wonder how many of those nursing instructors are still teaching there. Sketchy.
I also get a general feeling of disorganization when I interact with staff from NMSU. Maybe that should have been my first warning sign.
I think I'm going to hold out for a program that's better.
Anyone else have any other opinions?

You were accepted into a program for Spring 09' correct? From your post I am assuming you have your Bachelors in another area, correct? I had no idea they almost lost their license a few years ago. Thanks for the information. I don't want to be on a waiting list any longer. I have been on one for a little over a year. I am in another state, so I have had no interaction with the staffing.
