My application is complete for Fall 2010 at Oakton Community College. I am freaked out right now as I don't know if I have good enough NLN scores to get in. Does anyone know what a "good enough" score is? The minimum required is a composite of 60, and 50 on the verbal. From what I've heard, people are scoring in the 90's (with 99 being a perfect score per a nursing advisor...). My composite is an 89 and my verbal is 97
. Anyone know if this is good/bad/ugly? In other words, do you think I have a chance of getting accepted.....or not???
Thanks!!
Thanks Sully100!
Right now I have to study for a micro exam that I have tomorrow. This anticipation is playing with my nerves and I'm having a hard time concentrating . Oh well!! I know exactly what you mean........this is a horrible way to do things. They put students through stressville with the wait time!!!
I just hope I don't get bad news right before my exam!!! that would totally suck.....
Hang in there!! is your score in the 90's? sorry if I'm being nosey, but if it is, I think you have a great chance this time around. I got an 89....so I'm nervous, cuz I don't know if they'll go down to the 80's this fall.
Take a deep breath! I have a feeling we will be all right. Don't bomb your micro test because of this. You have to think that if 100 people apply and they let in 80 total you have a very good chance of getting in the program. Even though 20 are ESL's, it is still part of the hundred. Second, you are hearing 90s from the people who got the 90s but the people that got lower are not going to tell you. I know a girl who got an 83 last year and got in-she was on the wait list the first time and the second time she got in. So don't worry-
Thanks for the pep talk Sully100! I'm trying to relax and think positive thoughts, but yet I don't want to rule out the chance of a "R" letter as that would be more devastating....thinking "I'm in!" "I'm in!" and then finding out otherwise. So, I have to allow both possibilities in this crazy brain of mine .
In a way, I hope I don't get anything in the mail today because of my micro exam. Tomorrow would be much better. Yet, the uncertainty is killing me!! All night long I kept dreaming of reaching into my mailbox!!! In my dream I got 3 pieces of correspondence from OCC and I was soooooooooo scared to open them!!! ha ha ha.
Anyway, hope you guys are holding up better than I am!! Cuz I'm a basket case right now!!!
ps- the girl that got the 83 and got into the program, which term? fall or spring?
I also checked the mail and the was absolutely nothing in there.... I was a little nervous when I approached my mail box but its better this way. I also have an exam and I need to concentrate on that more than ever. If I had gotten my letter today it could have interfered. I guess we'll find out tomorrow or Saturday. Once again Good Luck!
Just got home.....heart beating a mile a minute, dry mouth, anxiety-ridden, scared, etc. etc.
Checked my mailbox and.........NOTHING!!!!
Not sure if this means anything or not, but a girl in my class told me that she got a letter over spring break telling her she was not being considered for fall. She didn't score high enough on the verbal to be considered a conditional student, so unfortunately, she is completely eliminated from consideration. She is a lovely girl so I feel sad for her, but that also got me thinking...... is it at all possible that people that are not to be in the program have already been told? I'm not sure how this works, but I found it kinda strange that she received that letter while on spring break?????? What do you guys think?????? I remember that when I first spoke to an advisor at the beginning of March, she told me that they would let people know as quickly as possible if they were not going to be accepted. She said something to the effect of "not wanting to have people wait around and get their hopes up". However, things change so much at OCC that I don't know WHAT to think!!! First, we were going to be told by May 3rd.....then by April 1st......then they were going to mail out letters by today (March 26), and then we find out letters went out 2 days ago!!!! Can you blame me if I'm confused as heck?????
One girl from my class also received a rejection letter because she got below 50 on the verbal part although her composite score an 89%. I guess that letters that we are awaiting are acceptance wait list. I'm so anxious and can't wait for the letter.
Pandorasbox I totally understand you, especially as I found out that letters mailed out last semester where sent in regular sized envelopes but they did sent out the healthcare forms along with a accept/reject sheet.
Jessicuy --- so you mean to say that the letters that are in transit will be acceptance and/or waitlist? OCC will waitlist everyone with "decent" scores but who don't have the highest scores 1 through 58? Ugh!!! what is the point of being waitlisted at a higher number of 2 or 3???? what are the chances of getting in if your waitlist # is higher than that? I highly doubt it's worth it!!! I mean, it's soooooooo unlikely that people would turn down the chance of starting nursing school this year!! I just can't see it......
I assume the girl in your class scored
And in regard to letters. Are you saying that we SHOULD NOT PANIC if the letter we receive is a regular sized envelope? Well.....at least until we open it and read what it says, right??????
I wonder if tomorrow is THE day????
Im soooo sorry for that previous post as I know some parts did not make much sense and I have many typos.... hahaha I was doing it from my cell phone. Well let me clarify what I meant to say in the previous post.
YES, Oakton will waitlist everyone that is qualified but did not score high enough to be in the program, of course this depends on the score of other students and like I had stated previously in another post there are some years where students in the 80s get in and othersthey even go to the 70s.
If you read the requirement for applying in Oakton website you will be able to see that they take "20 conditional students" Meaning that they need to score in between 30-49 and they need to have already completed AP1& AP2 in order to be considered conditional! The girl in my class did not have those two classes completed which is why she wasn't even considered as a conditional student.
I think that we should not panic if we receive a regular sized envelope. The girl that I spoke to said that she received a regular sized envelope in the mail and that it contained the health forms as well as the accept/reject letter that needs to be sent back. Hopefully they go to the 80s because I sooooooo want to get in. I've praying sooo much for this and I find myself qualified to take this challenge.

I feel the same way Sully100 and I was just talking about it earlier today with one of my coworkers. Its so unfair that you want to do something so bad and you cant because you depend on someone to make that decision for you. I believe that I have what it takes to get into nursing school, I obtained a better than average score on the nln and have a good gpa as well. I am definitely in the running however it all depends on all other students and their scores and I have heard that there are many 90s and I am just hoping that they get into the 80s this year so that we will get a chance to get in.
