My application is complete for Fall 2010 at Oakton Community College. I am freaked out right now as I don't know if I have good enough NLN scores to get in. Does anyone know what a "good enough" score is? The minimum required is a composite of 60, and 50 on the verbal. From what I've heard, people are scoring in the 90's (with 99 being a perfect score per a nursing advisor...). My composite is an 89 and my verbal is 97
. Anyone know if this is good/bad/ugly? In other words, do you think I have a chance of getting accepted.....or not???
Thanks!!
Hi all you guys...was just readind your thread here and let me tell you I am in the same boat! They just sprung the NLN test on us in February, the first class of nurses that will have to take it at our CC. When you guys get more info would love to hear everything about it! lol Mine and some friends' test date is April 2 and let me tell you we are freaking out! Ours school says that we have to score in the top 50th % and they dont even have any numbers for what you will need to pass, they dont seem to know anything! sooo... let us know guys thanx so much
hi sully,
thanks for the tip. i guess it makes sense for the envelopes to be a little bit different. but then again, how does the college know that each person that is accepted into the program will "accept" the spot? i mean, why even send extra paperwork with the acceptance letter?
okay, while typing this i received a call back from one of the advisors. i asked the following:
1. does she know how low they're going with nln scores? no, she doesn't have that information (don't know if i believe that.....).
2. when will letters go out? letters are being prepared as we speak (envelopes, health ins. info, labels). we should hear within the next two weeks. if we don't hear back in two weeks, we should call and inquire on status. (i think they will send letters out by the end of this week like jessicuy said. we may get the letter as early as saturday, and surely no later than tuesday since we're all local u.s.p.s. delivery). :redbeathe
3. does she know how many applicants there are? no, she does not have that information (yeah!! right.......) :grn:
i couldn't ask more questions as she was not very forthcoming. i think they're trained to give very limited information. if you guys hear anything else pls post it so we're all in the loop.
OMG how exciting!!!! Either way whether I'm accepted or not, I want to know NOW.... its better to get it out of the way and start preparing for the future than be pondering day/night! I guess the advisors are very well trained not to let out any information before the letters have been received by students. Oh well we have all been trying to find out as much as we can and it has been helpful thus far. At least we have help each other with the wait time and its nooottt that much longer anymore.
We only have about 1 week left of waiting :heartbeat:redbeathe:heartbeat:redbeathe:nurse:
I found out tonight that students who applied for fall, but who did not have all the prerequisites completed by Feb 26th have already received letters letting them know they are being removed from the applicant pool.
I got scared when the girl who told me this asked me if I'd received MY letter!! At first I thought she'd been accepted, but then she told me what the whole deal was........ so........ the wait continues!!!!!
:crying2:

Hmmmm.....what test did your school use prior to switching to the NLN? As far as I know, my school has been using the NLN for quite some time. The minimum requirements are a 60 in the composite percentile ALL section, and a 50 on the verbal section. However, these scores have been moving up, so someone with the minimal scores may not have a chance to get in to the program. Too much competition!!! It seems like everyone and their mother wants to go to nursing school!!! LOL!!
Your test date is right around the corner so make sure you practice, practice, practice!!! I hope you already have the review book, as that will give you a pretty good idea what the test is like. Good luck and let us know how you do!!!
OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH MY GOD I AM SOOOOO NERVOUS NOW!!!! Thxs for the update Sully100:clown: My stomach is churning and my chest feels tight.... **gulp** ready or not here they come! GOOD LUCK AND WHATEVER HAPPENS IT WILL BE FOR THE BEST. If we want something we'll all get in someway or another. Keep those spirits up as we have made this far already!
This is how I feel now, LOL!!!!!
WOW!!! Now I'm scared to death to get the mail!!! I know we've all been anxiously waiting for this moment, but now that I know the letters are really out........YIKES!!! I too feel nervous, shaky, & scared!!!!
I know that when I went to the mailbox today I did it with my eyes closed. I didn't even know the letters had already gone out, but I closed my eyes nevertheless!!!! Imagine what I'll do tomorrow, Friday, or Saturday!!!
Anyway, I will PRAY for all us!!!! I certainly hope we all get in. GOOD LUCK!!!!
Sully100 - did you get this info from one of the advisors? any idea how many applicants there were???? Just curious....
I heard from this girl in school- she went to the advisor-they told her the letters went out today. I just think it is horrible that if someone wants to get into a school they should be able to without such heartache( especially if they have the scores). I know how you feel going to the mailbox-I did the same thing today. I don't have any idea how many applicants-but I hope we are on that list!!!!
