NLN Scores for Oakton Community College - Fall 2010

Published

My application is complete for Fall 2010 at Oakton Community College. I am freaked out  right now as I don't know if I have good enough NLN scores to get in. Does anyone know what a "good enough" score is? The minimum required is a composite of 60, and 50 on the verbal. From what I've heard, people are scoring in the 90's (with 99 being a perfect score per a nursing advisor...). My composite is an 89 and my verbal is 97 :uhoh3:. Anyone know if this is good/bad/ugly? In other words, do you think I have a chance of getting accepted.....or not???

Thanks!!

I heard about the test and I was not happy that can retake the same test and you score so much higher! That is totally unfair to all the people that have to wait six months to retake it!

I am in the same boat as you-I don't want to sit around and wait another year because the next session is so much harder to get accepted. I was 14 on the waiting list.

The letters go out next week and hopefully we will both be happy-but just hearing that 60 to 93 story makes me sick!

I'm planning on taking that test but In the state of mass could someone pliz tell me what to expect I'm at the hosp will be discharged tommorow had a baby but doing the test April 15

KEEP THOSE SPIRITS UP HIGH!!!!! Hopefully we'll get in for this semester....as Pandorasbox said "there were only 100 something applicants and there are 80 spots regardless. Lets stay as positive as we can and it will help us get through this waiting period, it shouldnt be too long before we get those "admission letters". I am actually wondering about the letter itself, it is going to be bigger and thicker if its an admission letter or just a thin envelope if you get waitlisted??? God help us get in for fall 2010 and we'll b on our way for a rewarding career. Also if anyone knows the answer to my question, please let me know, I'm soooo anxious.:banghead:

Perpatua:

This test consist of three sections: Math, Verbal, and Science. There are 80 questions for verbal and science and 58 questions for math. Use the RN Pre-entrance Exam by Mary E. McDonald Third Edition. The verbal part contains reading comprehension and word knowledge, Science is a mixture of anatomy & physiology and many graphs, it also has general science and physics some chemistry. The math is a mixture of fractions, algrebra, geometry and percentages. I just suggest reviewing the book as much as possible.

Perpatua - Congratulations on your baby!! You're a trooper for wanting to take the test so soon after giving birth!! Wow!!

Anyway, to prepare you for the exam, get the review guide (ISBN 978-0-7637-6271-1) that Jessicuy suggested and practice answering the questions quickly and accurately. Make sure you go over each subject so you can familiarize with the type of questions you will be asked. You will have 60 min. for each section of the exam and you want to make sure you get through all of them. The test is kinda stressful because of the time factor so the better prepared you are, the better. Good luck! and let us know how you did! :D

Jessicuy - You're right, we "should" try to keep our spirits up. Sometimes I feel really hopefully and other times I feel blah!!! I guess it's because I've heard from other students that they had to apply multiple times before being accepted. I'm certainly hoping the #'s the advisor gave me are correct (100 something). Although in my mind that # seems quite low!!! I've always heard 300 or so apply......is that true, or is that a myth??? When I asked the advisors some questions about 2 weeks ago, they both responded, "don't believe everything you hear...." So....I do not know what to think!!! Guess we should all sit tight and wait for "the" letter!!! Like you, I also wonder what it will look like!!

Thanks pandorabox and jessica. I bought the book yesterday from bn n nobles. I'll work on it. Talk of frustrations I have tried transferring to nursing schools but this nurse entrance tests sucks, this is not away to determine eligibility by giving me 45min to answer 100 quizes? Daaah! I have almost 49 credits I get acceptance for BSN prog but not RN it's so competitive. Now am trying to move down to GA from MA transferringis tough. Hope to get letters from one of the colleges I have spent over 1000 dolaz on aplications to various sch allover am ready to relocate anywhere.

Congrats on the baby! You guys are right....keep positive! Good luck to all!

I just wanted to give you guys an update...... Letters will be mailed out on Friday the 26th..... so look out for those letter next week.

Hi Jessicuy!

Thanks for the update!! :redbeathe Did you speak to an advisor today? If you did, did you get any other information? (i.e. # of applicants???? What score of NLN are they concentrating on? I mean, are they even considering any scores

I know we've discussed this over and over in our previous conversations, but just wondering if you've gotten more info on the subject??? I'm itching to call over there but I don't want to pester them again with all my questions.....LOL!

Guess I better take a chill pill till next week!! :lol2:

I spoke to the advisor today in regards to the letters cause I didnt want to bother them with all my questions although I wanted soooooo bad to ask them those questions but I was sooooo scared to know the answers.... I also felt like they wouldnt tell me so I didn't ask that. However I asked about what type of envelope we would be getting and she said it all depended. She that we could get a bulkier envelope if it had other papers such as healthcare papers to fill out and that it would a little bit bigger than a regular one or getting a regular sized envelope. Now I'm nervous b/c I think if you get the bigger envelope it means you're in and if you get a regular one you aren't in. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH  Maybe you can give them a call and see if they took anyone below the 90s which I am sure they did *****crossing fingers***** and possibly ask them what was the lowest score!:heartbeat N-e ways she did say that by next Friday we should have our letters all depending on the mail route ofcourse.

Oh Gosh!! Now I'm even more nervous!! You did ask a good question, but now I'm not so sure I wanted to know the answer!!! LOL!!! My heart will totally sink if I receive a plain ol' envelope. But, the question was something we were curious about, so now we know!!!

I guess I will call someone tomorrow and see if they're willing to answer the "score" question. I'll try calling someone I haven't talked to already. At least there's 3 different advisors whom we can "bug".......hee hee hee.

Whatever I found out, I will let you know.

ps-- wait a minute......I just re-read your comments. Did she say that the envelope size will NOT matter? There could be an acceptance letter WITH healthcare papers which would make the envelope bigger & thicker, OR there could only be an acceptance letter OR rejection letter, which means that either one would come in a a normal-sized envelope, right??? Sorry for the paranoia!!! This waiting time is a killer!!!

I am not sure if the nursing advisor actually meant that the bulkier letters were necessary admissions and the thinner meant "wait list" but that's what I assumed b/c why else would they include other forms??? She also said something about those letters being in a slightly bigger manila envelope soooooo who knows! :banghead: I know that knowing this is torture and I have made it pretty bad on myself for when I see the envelope next week. If you find out the lowest scores taken in this semester let me know as soon as you can. Thank You I appreciate it sooooooooo much.:tku:

Hi guys-The thinner ones is probably the waitlist (that's what I got before). So hoping for the fat envelope!
