NLN Scores for Oakton Community College - Fall 2010

Published

My application is complete for Fall 2010 at Oakton Community College. I am freaked out  right now as I don't know if I have good enough NLN scores to get in. Does anyone know what a "good enough" score is? The minimum required is a composite of 60, and 50 on the verbal. From what I've heard, people are scoring in the 90's (with 99 being a perfect score per a nursing advisor...). My composite is an 89 and my verbal is 97 :uhoh3:. Anyone know if this is good/bad/ugly? In other words, do you think I have a chance of getting accepted.....or not???

Thanks!!

Sully100 and Jessicuy,

Just wondering if you have received your letters today? I've been thinking about you guys and hope both of you get good news!!

Mickey_Student - Sent you a PM.

Sorry I haven't had a chance to write but I did get in. Thanks for all the support! I hope the news is good for everyone else!

Congratulations Sully100! I know you're relieved to hear you're in, but did you by chance also experience a moment of sheer terror? I did......kinda like, "oh oh!!! what did I get myself into????" Don't get me wrong, I'm happy I can finally say I'm starting nursing school, but what is scaring me to death is the amount of work that is ahead ...... and hearing people tell me that I will have no life for the next 2 years. :lol2:

I know it will be worth it in the end.

Congrats again! I look forward to meeting you!! We'll have to figure out a way to do it though...

I heard the same thing-no life. It would be very difficult for people that has to work!

Congratulations Sully100!!!! :yeah: I received my letter also..... I was soooo nervous to get to the mailbox but I was also so ready to know b/c I have been freaking a out all the time. To make the story short I received an envelope not a packet! :crying2: I was told I have been waitlisted and quite frankly there is no way that many people will reject their spot. So I got kinda sad when I received the plain envelope but I will be trying to get in maybe Spring or next fall who knows. I need to bring my nln score up I guess, I also made an appointment with the nursing advisors to see what else I need to do to maximize my chances of being accepted. Oh well I guess my wait is not over yet..... :p. Good luck in Nursing school guys..... remember that it will be hard but you have made it that far yet so don't give up no matter how hard it may seem at times.

Any advice on how to bring my score up will be appreciated..... I got an 83% on the nln and that wasn't high enough this time, so any advice would really help, thxs. :redbeathe

Retake the test-take it a hundred times if you have too. I know people that went from a 80 to a 93 in ONE week! What number were you on the waitlist? I was 14 for the spring-don't give up it is just a small setback. Just go on and try again!

Thxs for the advise sully100... I will try and score higher for the nln. I'm #16 on the list... so its hopeless now..... but another semester will be my time

Oh Jessicuy, I am so sorry you got the waitlist letter instead. My heart dropped when I read your last post. :crying2:

However, sully100 is right. Retake the NLN and never give up. You want this so bad that I know you will make a great nursing student and an even better RN!!! If I were you, I would concentrate on the area that you did not score so well in. In my case, I scored quite high in the verbal portion, but just so-so (very average) on the math & science. I had already programmed it in my head that if I had to retake the NLN in August, I would have to study my butt off in those weak areas. Whatever you need to do, just do it. I know one girl who scored in the 60's on 02/10 and a 92 on 2/20....so it is very possible to increase your score quite a bit.

GOOD LUCK!!!

Thanks for the advice pandorasbox, you're so sweet. I won't stop trying to get in because this is what I really want to do with my life. I am taking a&p2 right now so I'm sure that will help more with the science portion, I will also touch up on my verbal ability because they also look at that

I talked to an advisor and she told me that the lowest score was a 89%. She said that it was very unusual for fall, I think that this was mostly due to the nln retake. Who knows? ??

Of course that is why! Those are scores they would take in January! Totally unfair!

yeah very true, but whatever it is what it is and I will try for next time, it is just a set back and meanwhile I will try to finish some other non nursing classes. I still have to take micro, anthro, and a humanities class. Let me know how everything goes and good luck in nursing school.:nurse:

Just wanted to give all you ladys an update...took the NLNPAX-RN today and...I PASSED!?!? Got a 96% composite but I feel bad because a lot of very smart, dedicated students didnt pass today. :( Thank for all the advice and support, this site is so helpful, and you guys are great too.!!!
