NLN comprehensive exam

Published

Speaking of exit exams (HESI) thread came to mind.

We are taking the NLN comprehensive exam on tuesday for our exit exam. How is it? They want us to get a 78% or higher. We are all nervous because they say if we don't pass, we don't graduate. Any input? Are the questions similar or same degree of difficulty as Saunders, Mosby's etc..questions? Any advice would be helpful and would probably ease some of my anxiety about this exam.

Another question, anyone in nursing school ever hear of students not graduating if they don't pass the exit exam?

First off, where I went to school NLN'S were not counted as any grade, and sure didn't decide whether you graduated. The comprehensive NLN was only suppose to give us practice for NCLEX and let us know what our weaknesses were. It is wayyy easier than NCLEX, they don't compare at all! I thought it was even easier than class exams. And that was without hardly studying for it...who has time to review everything right before graduation??? That's what you do AFTER graduation! I took the comprehensive last summer, and I doubt it's changed much. So don't worry so much, you'll do okay. :)

I took the NLN exam a few weeks ago. Less than 30% of our class passed it. Those who didn't pass have to do remediation before they get their diploma.

Mtngrl,

Thanks for the input! We took a diagnostic exam in December that told us our weaknesss but the one we took today was a comprehensive 141 question test. I didn't think it was too bad. Mostly knowledge & comprehensive questions. Only a few critical thinking. I surely hope I passed!!!!

Newgrad2005,

Less than 30% passed? Wow! I read the first thread first and was like whew.....but then I read yours!! Eeeks!!! I surely hope more than that passed ours. We were told about this exam in Jan, so we have all be preparing. I do agree with the other response in that it was easier then some of these CD's I've been doing. The bad thing is I should have been concentrating on knowledge and comprehension and not so much analysis questions.

Unfortunately, if we don't pass after 2 tries, we don't graduate. We will have to wait til next year and be the class of 2006. Lot's of stress! I think if that stipulation wasn't put on that exam, we wouldn't have been so stressed and probably would may have done better. We will know next week.

When did Newgrad2005 find out your results? We are all dying to know.

Thanks for the replies!

Tiffany

I just wanted to give an update on this exam. We took it 4/19 and I found out this past week I passed!!!!!! It gave me a 98% chance of passing the NCLEX. Wahoo!!

This was very stressful for all of us because like I said before, it affects whether we graduate or not. Unfortanately, only 10 of us passed out of 35. So 25 must take another comprehensive exam on monday. I hope they pass!!! So 70% of our class failed. That is awful. :( I feel so bad for those that failed. That was a hard day because almost everyone that failed was crying. Please say a prayer they past this week.

3 more weeks until graduation!!

What kind of crazy school are you going to????? And obviosly they didn't teach ya'll well if that many failed. I hope those others pass after all their hard work.

mtngirl,

Yes, crazy school is right. We are the first generic BSN class to graduate from this school and our base foundation hasn't been that great. I did a lot of studying on my own since I found out about this. A lot of us just started group studying to pass this semester for this test. That should give you some idea of how this school is if we just started studying in groups. It's a lot to teach on your own and quite frankly, I'm surprised I did as well as I did.

Thanks for the congrats! I hope it's right about me passing the NCLEX.
