NJCU ABSN 2020

Published

Hi everyone - I am considering applying for the Jersey City NJCU ABSN program starting in 2020. Has anyone submitted their application?

@Tsal undergrad GPA was a 2.97 ?I was a Chemistry major. 4.0 for all my prerequisites and a 96 on my HESI.

There’s so many of us on this thread! I look forward to meeting all of you in person ?

@beckitoflo thanks for your offer! I had a question regarding the CPR certification requirement before the start of the program. Do you know what type they require... adult only, adult and children...? I started looking at certifications in my area and different types of CPR certifications are available... didn’t know which one we would need. Thanks!

I also received an acceptance email yesterday! I'm a bit surprised that there's no online acceptance link LOL

@BigCheese yay! So happy for you

@Tsal

undergrad GPA 3.5

prereq 4.0

HESI 91

I have absolutely no healthcare experience, I was pretty nervous about that when I applied. I was thinking of volunteering, but didn’t have any time for that either. Anyway, I’m currently in finance and excited to start this new chapter!

It has to be for adults AND children as your clinical rotations are going to cover the lifespan. They have to be American Heart NOT American Red Cross. Don't Stress tooooooo much over this, our cohort set up a training through the school in July before we began in September for the people who needed a refresher. They will go through this at your orientation.

Congrats everyone! (time to dust off your A&P books LOL!)

@Fitzy31 I have zero healthcare experience as well, so we are in the exact same situation! I graduated with a degree in business admin and have been working in corporate HR for the last couple of years, that made me the most nervous. I also thought about volunteering, but with working full-time and taking accelerated prerequisites so I could meet the application deadline I, didn’t have the time either. I am so excited that I got accepted and for this new journey!

@Tsal

Undergrad GPA: 3.9 Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing and Management

Prerequisite GPA: 4.0

HESI: 92.67

I really put my heart into the essay as well! Tried to pick a topic that wasn’t so mainstream or popular.

@beckitofloThanks for answering our questions. I had a couple more! For the orientation, it says that they expect you to purchase your uniforms that day. Do you know if we have to bring a check or if we can just bring our credit/debit cards and have them charge it like that ? Also do we need health insurance immediately before the start of the program or can we just get it before clinicals start?

Thanks!!

of course! I'm here to help and answer any question you all have. a lot of information is going to come your way and once the program starts its a whirlwind so its best to get prepared/organized now...

Honestly, I did not get them on campus. I know they will take card check and probably cash....they have the representative bring in uniforms to try on for sizing but you will want to order them as soon as possible because you cant go to clinical without them. I want to say I ordered them that night online, and they came in the mail in about 2 weeks. BUT, classmates waited until august and then they didn't come in until after class started and it was a problem.

The school will explain this to you, but health insurance is a big pain in the butt long process. I would work on it as soon as you can because approval can take awhile. At orientation they will give you a checklist that needs to be completed BEFORE the start of clinical. Vaccinations (they will tell you which) take a while too so its best to start that right away, and the health insurance.

@beckitoflo thank you for this info! I have health insurance through my husband - is that enough? I also had a question about the , is that easy / quick to retain and do they give you suggested vendors for that?

My second question is in regards to vaccines I have a friend in a similar program and she had to have her titers rested and then get vaccinated based on that. Is this the same process, if so I’ll start ASAP.

Thank you!

Rachael

the titers will be explained during orientation (I know it's Tdap, Hep B, MMR). It can be annoying cause you have to have a blood test (with your doctor) to check for immunity. If you need a booster, you then have to go back in six weeks and get the labs run again to test the immunity. Just make sure you make those appointments as soon as you get the info at orientation.

for those at JC, you'll have to wait until the fall to get the flu shot for next year, Wall, I'm not sure what vaccine you will need.

Having it through your husband is fine- there's a platform you will just have to upload a copy of the card with your name on it.

The process is the easiest part. I want to say its about 40 for the year and takes about 20 mins and you get instant access. Don't do it too far out cause it has to cover until your graduation.

@beckitoflo thank you!! I am going to make an appointment with my doctor the week of orientation to be safe. Thank you so much for all the input! I also think it’s still possible to get a flu shot now, I was thinking of doing that before orientation just to have it completed.
