Anyone applying? Have you taken the HESI? Thought it would be helpful to share experiences.
Hello all,
I just wanted to notify everyone that once NJCU receives your acceptance form & deposit, they will notify you via email that "it has been received & your seat is officially secured. So don't be wary about whether it's received or not just be on the lookout for this email as confirmation. I just received mine (JC cohort).
How many people were accepted??
Hi dutchie000,
NJCU just redid their website to standardize the Academics webpages, however Google's cache of the page included the following information:
"This program has the capacity to fill approximately 48 available seats at the Jersey City campus and 30 seats at the NJCU at Wall campus. A waiting list is created only when there are more qualified applicants than seats available. If no vacancies become available, applicants on the waiting list must re-apply the following year."
However, the cohorts will not know the actual number of students accepted until the New Student Orientation (April for Wall students, June for Jersey City students).
Hi all, congrats to those who have been admitted to the program!!!!
Wanted to join this thread to see if there are others looking to apply for Fall 2016 - NJCU JC is my 1st choice school, Rutgers is my 2nd although I have heard that Rutgers is only accepting internal applications? Not sure how accurate that info is or if it even applies to the accelerated program since I didn't come across that info when on their website, I only heard this through word of mouth.
So far, those are my only 2 choices - its not easy to find an accelerated program that is "affordable" $$$$$!
I have completed the pre-reqs and right now I have a 3.5 GPA based on pre-reqs, I have just about a 3.0 from my first degree - a BFA in fashion design. Does anyone know how they go about reviewing and filtering apps? I know generally, schools are looking for a well-rounded student with a diverse background especially for an accelerated program but how does GPA, your resume, recommendations, etc. all weight in? From what I've read about the HESI, it sounds like its not that that bad and as long as I put in the time studying, I am sure I can do well. I think the NLN PAX is harder from what I've heard and read and NJCU does not test you on chem or physics so it takes a load off.
Do you think they review apps based on first come, first serve? How would those who were accepted into the program describe their experience in the application process with NJCU? I feel that the earlier I apply, the better chance I will have.....what are your thoughts? I would LOOOVE to say I was accepted in the NJCU program for Fall 2016 but the idea of being wait-listed or rejected really makes me nervous!!!
Hi drea_futureRN,
Thanks for your cheering us on! From what you've mentioned, you're applying to NJCU-JC campus for Fall 2017? As soon as NursingCAS has the application available (most likely in the fall of this year), definitely begin and complete the process! What you can do in the meantime is look for volunteer opportunities in local healthcare facilities or hospitals to give yourself some insight on what you would expect in nursing/healthcare; this may also allow you to build professional relationships from which you can request letters of reference. Also, have your official transcripts sent over to NursingCAS for verification, as well as use an unofficial transcript to help you enter all your courses manually in your profile; it takes a LONG time for them to verify--average is about four to six weeks--so the earlier you get them in, the better it'll be! Do note: Rutgers will need every post-secondary (re: college) course you've taken to be reported; NJCU only requires the pre-requisite courses to be manually reported. Thus, better to just enter everything, if you'll be applying to both universities.
In terms of the application process, you can read up from the previous cohort threads for Rutgers and NJCU--full of great information. The universities do not review on rolling basis, as they do have a set deadline, so just be sure to complete everything well before the due date. Both campuses select on a holistic basis, even though they have recommended GPA standards and minimum test scores for their required pre-nursing assessments (definitely review/study!); essays do have a great weight, though, alongside previous work/volunteer experience and your letters of reference, so be sure not to discount the other elements of the application. Remember that these selection committees evaluate applications individually and are seeking prospective students who would be successful through the rigorous schedule of an accelerated program, so it is important to demonstrate that throughout your application.
From our incoming 2016 JC cohort (and most likely with the 2016 Wall cohort, as well), it appears that many of us have completed our bachelor's degrees in sciences and have strong work/volunteer experiences in related science fields. Personally, I did not have a strong cumulative UG GPA (
Good luck and do your best with your application, and perhaps you should be the OP for the next NJCU cohort on here!
Hi Lacerti! Thanks so much for taking the time to reply to my post - and yes, I am looking to apply to NJCU JC for Fall 2017 (guess it may be time to start that thread on here ).
I guess what worries me the most is that my Bachelor's degree is so out of left field and that I do not have any kind of science background .... until the application process starts for 2017 I do plan to find volunteer opportunities in a hospital like you mentioned and start prepping for HESI while continuing to take the remainder of the required pre-reqs for Rutgers (I still have to complete an organic chem or chem II class along with nutrition).
We shall see what happens - NJCU sounds very competitive but I am hoping that I will meet their requirements and that I will be able to write a strong essay that reflects my decision and passion for nursing when the time comes.
Thanks again for your input and good luck in nursing school! Hopefully I will be able to share advice with ours as you have with me!

Sure! Add the Cohort group; I'll remove JC from the name.
