Anyone applying? Have you taken the HESI? Thought it would be helpful to share experiences.
Hi rshergill877,
I'll definitely get started on the nursingCAS!
I have all pre-reqs ready for NJCU but I am worried about my GPA not being high enough - I completed microbiology this past spring semester and ended with a 3.6 GPA which isn't terrible until you start to hear about how competitive these programs are to get into!
I come from a fashion design background, and while I don't have any healthcare or medical experience to add to my resume, I am looking to apply to volunteer programs in nearby hospitals to get me used to the hospital environment....but again, will it be enough to be accepted into NJCU? By the time, the nursingCAS opens for NJCU, I may really only have a month or 2 of experience volunteering if I am offered a position for a volunteering program before summer is over. I am hoping to also be accepted so that I can finish in 12 months! Rutgers Newark is my 2nd choice school but I still have to take Organic Chemistry to apply. I want to start prepping for the HESI or NJCU halfway through summer, which I hear its not as difficult as the NLN-PAX.
Do you plan to take time away from being a clinical dietitian if you're accepted into NJCU or can you maintain working part-time? I work full-time right now in the city designing activewear - its a regular 9-6 desk job. If accepted into NJCU I plan to leave my full-time job and depending on what the school schedule allows me, possibly take on a part-time or per diem job in a hospital but NJCU does recommend that you do not work at all.
We shall see what happens this coming fall! Maybe we can keep in touch since we are both looking to apply for Fall 2017 :) good luck with the application process!!
Hi drea_futureRN,
Fashion designing sounds like a cool field to work in. Im currently full-time but if I do get accepted (crossing all fingers) I will def have to quit this full time job and depending on what the schedule looks like, most likely get a part-time job to work around the school schedule. I do have a husband lol so lets see if I can handle it all. I wanted to apply to Rutgers but 3 of my science pre-reqs are more than 5 years old and this summer I am already taking 2 classes other than those pre-reqs. When I was working at my old job in Brooklyn, there were some people who were trying to get experience in order to get into nursing schools. Try going to a hospital and go to their human resources. Those students would just shadow the nurses. Most of the nurses were really helpful to them. We can def keep in touch since we're both applying for the same cohort! Hope we both get in :)
hey, eris08 I know you must be very busy but i have some questions regarding books and other things...for instance which are the books we will be actually using, which should i rent? which should i buy? which teacher is mostly slide based? which subject do you suggest reading up on( i know everyone is different)..also how many different sites did they send you for your clinicals? and some other questions... i begin at the jersey city cohort in september. my friend graduated the accelerated program at rutgers and she suggested i find a current student to address questions. if you'd like you could reply here or i could reply with my email. I would not at all mind swinging by campus as i dont live too far. i'm nervous because my organizational skills are not particularly strong so I'm trying to have everything structured before i start the program to ensure success. I would greatly appreciate any feedback you could give me.
Thanks
Sara
hey, i got accepted into jc as well. there was a guy that towards the ending of the orientation said there was a facebook page for the jc cojort...i only found the facebook page for the wall cohort...can you give me the link or your email?? thanks
Hello @sara_was_taken. The fb page is titled "njcu absn 2016 2017 cohort." Just search that & you'll get the closed group & u can join.
Hi!
I'm not sure if I am too late coming into this thread? Hoping to get some feedback or advice... I have a BA in Psych (3.1 GPA) and I am finishing the pre-requisites this Fall and Spring. Does anyone know if I can apply while still completing one course during the Spring semester?
I am torn between nursing or a sonography program. I feel like nursing has more job opportunities than sonography... Wondering if anyone completed this program and what their job search was like??
Thanks!
Kait
Hi Kbreen1,
I'm late to this thread as well, since I just started researching the ABSN at NJCU, and plan on applying for Fall 2018 (unfortunately, I won't have my prereqs done by the Feb 2017 app deadline for the 2017 cohort). I asked the same question - can I apply if I am in progress on a prereq, and the answer was no. Everything has to be fully completed in order for your application to be considered. Maybe I'll see you in the 2018 cohort if you end up in the same situation as me. :) More time to plan and save! Good luck.
Hi BFess ! Do you know by any chance if the application deadlines are the same for Wall & JC ? I was thinking of waiting and applying to Wall campus for 2018 since it begins in May rather than September. Right now I am torn between an accelerated nursing program and Diagnostic Medial Sonography. Out of curiosity- what is your undergrad and background in?

Hey drea_futureRN,
I am also applying to the NJCU JC campus for Fall 2017. I already started working on the nursingCAS application but the program for NJCU does not become available until Aug. The deadline for NJCU is Feb 2017. I have my bachelors in Nutrition and I have been working as a clinical dietitian for about 4 years now, def a lot of interaction with nurses and other medical staff!! Start you nursingCAS as soon as you can because it does take a long time to put in all your courses from your previous degree. I just have to take psychology and statistics over since NJCU will not accept pre-reqs taken more than 10 years ago. Im taking them over the summer and will be done mid-Aug. Hopefully my transcripts will be available soon after that. Hows your application process going? I really ope to get in so I can finish in 12 months!! :)
