NJCU ABSN 2014!

Published

Hi! Just thought I would start a new thread for NJCU, 2014 applicants! - Any thoughts/concerns regarding the application process or help from alumni is greatly appreciated! I'm applying to the Wall cohort for this May.

I took a little more than 2 hours also, but was purposely rushing a bit, so that I wouldn't second guess my answers:)

hey lkhw12 -

Any update on the average HESI score now? I'm sure it has gone up since we have all been doing so well!

Some math for entertainment purpose…

I found some statistics on a sample of 506 nursing school candidates who took math, reading, vocab, grammar and A&P. The mean composite was 79.78 and standard dev (STD) was 8.15 for this group. So, it would be reasonable to say that if this same group had taken Bio, as well, STD would have reduced to maybe around 7.5.

Now, let’s assume the following: (1)NJCU candidates are similar to this sample, i.e., STD=7.5, (2)NJCU composite mean is 82.5 (as it is right now), (3) composite scores are normally distributed, and (4) there are 200 of us.

Based on these assumptions, 32 applicants would be estimated with HESI scores of 90 or above, 42 with scores between 85 and 89, inclusive, and 126 with scores below 85.

Without knowing other factors (gpa, recommendation, etc), my subjective prediction would be that those with 90 and above have around 50% chance of getting in while those between 82.5 and 90 have around 20% chance, but the actual probability wouldn’t be so discrete. For example, someone with an 88 will not have that much less chance of getting picked relative to another with a 91, but one with 83 would have much less than 20% chance of making it unless other factors are compelling for admission.

Also, this is all based on 200 applicants. With fewer apps, chances increase!

Anyway, I don’t know anything about the actual selection process but I would think that anyone with 88 and above should be in good shape with all other requirements satisfied.

I did this for fun and didn’t mean to let anyone down. Note that I had to make a ton of assumptions. I knew someone with 2.7 gpa who was accepted to UPenn medical school, so anything can happen. Cheers!

wow crazyfrog!

 thanks for the statistics!

Wow! There goes the statistics for us all! I hope we all get in!!!

So my application has officially been verified by NursingCAS! yaaay :)

Has anyone had their NursingCAS calculated undergrad gpa lower compared to your transcripts?

You're all welcome. I figure we all want to know our chances in numerical form. One assumption I forgot to include is that there will be 30 acceptance letters for 30 spots. This is a very conservative assumption since there will be some who will decide to attend other schools or decide not to go back to school because of many possible reasons. I would think based on my experience that there will be around 50 acceptances for the May cohort. Our chances of getting in would go up by quite a bit in such case.

Sarsoora8,

how do you check if your application has been verified by NursingCAS? Do they send you an email?

This whole NursingCAS process is SO CONFUSING :(

Hi JeanetteL,

You'll get an email, plus you'll be able to see your GPA calculations under the quick status.

Hope this helps!

I had my last and final transcript sent out last Monday (Jan 27th) and it has yet to be uploaded. I'm getting nervous! NursingCAS said there's no way for them to verify if they have actually received the transcript, only if it's been processed and uploaded. Which I feel is a pretty decent flaw that could create a giant disaster if they did, in fact, lose it. I wouldn't know until the 10th. Especially after the office was closed yesterday due to the weather.

Anyone who has had their application verified- About how long after you submitted it did it take to be verified?

Crazyfrog- that was awesome, lots of work you did there! I hope it's close to the real results!! :)

Hi tinemarie,

I submitted my application on 1/25 around 11pm and it was verified 2/6 around 6 am...so a little short of 2 weeks for my application to get verified. Hoping they get your transcripts uploaded soon!

Thanks for that info saraoora8! Hopefully it's verified before the deadline

Can't wait for all of us to be done with this!
