Hi Aspiring Nurses,
So I may be a bit early, considering the 2017 class is just now getting their acceptance letters for this coming Fall. But since late last year, I've been preparing to apply to the NJCU ABSN Jersey City cohort that will begin in 2018. I wasn't able to apply to the 2017 cohort as my prerequisites were not finished in time. I figured others may be in the same boat, so I figured why not get the conversation going. The application will open in October, and that's creeping up quickly, as it always does.
Therefore, I'd like to start this forum to discuss any questions or concerns we might have. I'm attending the info seminar next Wednesday, 3/29 at 5 PM - anyone else going? Some of my concerns are financial aid, specifically how much non-need based aid is available as many of us may not qualify for need-based aid if we work full time now. I currently work in Financial Aid, so if you have any questions about that, I'd be happy to give any info I have. I'm also curious about credit requirements for prereqs - I can't seem to find specific numbers (e.g. how many A&P credits do we need).
Overall, I hope to connect with others who are interested in applying to start in 2018, Jersey City and Wall - please share your thoughts, and I look forward to speaking with you!
Brittany
I received an e-mail a few days ago noting this:
Dear Prospective Student,
The deadline for the Jersey City campus ABSN program is quickly approaching. As a result, there has been a significant increase in call volume. Applicants are asked to refrain from contacting the Nursing Department by phone to determine their application status. Instead, please refer to your NursingCAS account to track the status of your application. ABSN applications are accessed by Nursing Department Personnel directly from the NursingCAS portal, thus, it is not necessary for applicants to contact the department to determine whether or not an application has been received. If there are any specific questions that cannot be addressed by NursingCAS customer support, please send all inquiries/questions by email to: [email protected].
Please be advised - applications DO NOT have to be verified by the application deadline, rather, in order to be considered for admission to the program, all relevant transcripts reflecting completion of the application requirements (prerequisites and BA/BS degree) must be received by NursingCAS by the application deadline.
Although the Admission Committee does not require submission of transcripts that reflect completion of coursework that is not required for this program, NursingCAS reserves the right to request the submission of transcripts reflecting completion of course work reported on transcripts that have already been processed. Please adhere to their request, as your application will be placed in an "undelivered" status until their transcript request has been fulfilled. If the application was submitted before the deadline, applicants subject to this dilemma will not be affected by this minor setback. Once transcripts requested by NursingCAS have been received, if the application status has not been updated to a "delivered" status, please contact NursingCAS directly for assistance.
Applicants are NOT required to submit HESI exam results. The department ID provided in the exam registration instructions on our webpage will link your scores to the Nursing Department Evolve account for retrieval. Applicants that have earned below an 80% cumulative score will NOT be considered for admission. No exceptions will be made.
It is the applicants responsibility to confirm via NursingCAS that all application requirements have been submitted (references completed electronically, admission essay and resume have been uploaded and all relevant transcripts have been received). CLEP, Excelsior College and any other approved prerequisite exam results not accepted by NursingCAS must be sent directly to the attention of: Samantha Younker, Nursing Department (please see university website for mailing address).
If there are any questions regarding your application, an email notification will be sent through NursingCAS. It takes the Admission Committee approximately 6-8 weeks from the application deadline to review applications. Once decisions have been finalized, an admission decision notice will be sent electronically to all applicants via NursingCAS email correspondence.
Thank you for your patience at this time and Good Luck!
I wish everyone the best of luck! The first hard part (i.e. applying) is over. :)

I think that the "average class score" is last years according to the FAQ on Evolve. This would make sense since there is still students taking the exam for this year.
