I agree with flowerchild. To quantify, I believe of 80 students, 5-10 dropped out the first semester due to academic, medical, or personal reasons. You also gain roughly 2-5 students a semester. I have also heard that in previous cohorts, many others drop out for various reasons. The point is that it is very demanding and you need to know that you are a good student/develop the habits to be a good student or you may end up wasting your time and money. It is not advisable to have a job, especially a full-time job. On the same token, while it is demanding, it is manageable to have a fun night out a couple times a month or to just watch Netflix every now and then; you need balance. There are several parents in class and even I part-time Uber/Lyft drive (less so this semester) while going to the gym a couple times a week. If you can make it through, it can be very rewarding and well worth it; I've had a blast so far through the second semester. The friends I've made have been invaluable as well. Professors have been mostly awesome and approachable. I think there has been one professor each semester that is either unengaging or "difficult" to deal with, but you can tell that pretty much every professor is passionate about the subject and willing to help their students. (I've visited many of my professors countless times to review exams, go over questions, etc.) Clinicals have been pretty cool; I have heard that compared to other schools in the area, UM allows their students to be more hands-on. A key part of nursing is assessing a patient, but it is still cool to be able to do skills. For example, by now I have given 5 or 10 injections, and I was able to start 2 IVs a couple weeks ago! Although you can't choose your clinical site until the very last semester for Role Transition, most of the clinical sites have been great I've heard. Clinicals are 1 day a week the first semester, 2 days weekly the second semester, and 3 days weekly the third semester. Below is the schedule that we have had/will have: 1st Sem Schedule (Summer 2018, 15 credits): Mon OR Thurs 7am-7pm Clinical Tues 8am - 5pm Class, 1 hr break Wed 8am - 3pm Class, 1 hr break Fri 9am - noon Class 2nd Sem Schedule (Fall 2018, 21 credits): Mon 8am - 4:00pm Class with 2 hour break Tues 8am - 4:00pm Class with 2 hour break Wed 8am - 3:00pm Class with 2 hour break Thurs 7am - 3:30pm Clinical Fri 7am - 3:30pm Clinical 3rd Sem Schedule (Spring 2019, 19 credits) Mon, Tues, AND Thurs 7am - 3:30pm Clinical Wed 8am - 4pm Class, 2 hour break Fri 8am - 4:30pm Class, 1 hour break All in all, I've already learned so much and thoroughly enjoyed the academic, clinical, and social experiences I've had in Miami. I think being perservering would be key in any accelerated nursing program, but for Miami, it is extra crucial. Good luck!

The course is broken down into about 20 mini modules. A lot of it is common sense or you may already know. I think if you want to fully digest everything, you'll need at least 3-4 days to complete it. If you're just trying to plow through it to get it done, I can see it being done in 1 full day. Personally it took me about a night and a half. The best part is that you can keep retaking the tests until you get 100%, so you don't have to worry about being perfect the first time through the modules.

@acmarie My cumulative GPA was a 3.7 and my science GPA was a 3.63. I had a couple months as a hospital office assistant and talked in my essay about my current job as a software developer. I talked less about the technical aspects of my job and more on the skills e.g. critical thinking that I gained as a developer.

@egonz18 I can agree that Duke is definitely an amazing school that will open a lot of doors. But is it worth at least $80K to have that name on your resume when other programs like Miami are strong in themselves and are half the cost? In arguably better locations and in a shorter amount of time as well? I'm also accounting for the fact that we would be getting a BSN degree. I don't think it matters where you get your BSN as much as it would be getting your graduate degree. We have to pass to same NCLEX exam to get certified and we are all nurses at the end of undergrad regardless of where you go. That's my dilemma right now.

@allneigh4u Congrats on your acceptance! I've been accepted to Duke as well, but I've also already deposited at other schools. Duke is an awesome option for nursing school, but I'm concerned about how much financial aid I will receive as well as the Fall start date. The other programs I've been accepted to, Miami and NJCU, costs half as much as Duke and start in May. May I ask what other school you are thinking about and what is leading you to lean towards Duke?

Hey @barrioschris I think you were supposed to receive an email containing the info regarding your Canelink credentials after you applied. That email would have a subject of "University of Miami Application Received" and in the message would be: "To access CaneLink, go to http://www.canelink.miami.edu and log in using the following CaneID and temporary password: - CaneID: (sampleID) - Temporary Password: (samplePassword)" I would contact the office if you can't find this email.

@Rose001 You have what is considered a fully complete application since the application status is supposed to say Verified and evaluations are supposed to be Complete. If you mean that the checkmark next to Check Status is grayed out, I think it's supposed to stay grayed out.

I received an email labeled "New Jersey City University Acceptance Letter - Accelerated BSN, Wall Campus" at 10pm on a Friday night.

@Carnitas Congrats on your acceptance to Miami! I was also accepted to Miami and am waiting on Duke's decision. I am leaning on Miami because it's essentially half the cost of Duke and Miami's program starts earlier. What makes Duke your top choice? And are you concerned about finances at all?

@Rose001 Thank you! I applied Jan 1 and received feedback almost exactly 3 months later. So I think you can assume that it takes about a month at best after the admissions deadline for them to notify you, meaning Apr 1st is the earliest for Jersey City. According to my NursingCAS calculated GPA, which can be found by downloading your application in the Check Status section, my overall GPA was 3.7 and my natural science GPA was 3.63. My HESI overall score was 91, with my lowest subscore being a 76 for Anatomy. I was a little discouraged by my Anatomy score, so I wanted to ensure my essay would make up for it. In my essay, I talked about my Intro to Philosophy class, in which I emphasized how it affected my mindset on different ethical issues and how it provided theoretical mental frameworks I can use in my nursing career. Obviously it is great to have good stats, but I think if you can clearly elaborate the profoundness of the effect your class, book, etc. had on you and your approach to different situations, that can be an edge up in the admissions process, whether for NJCU or other schools. I just received an email that I've been accepted to the Wall campus program! Did anyone else hear back?

While classes start May 21st, they also said that there's a mandatory Orientation on May 17th.

They seem to be putting out their decisions in waves. I applied on New Years Day and received my decision on Feb 6th, so that would be about 4 weeks.

For this program, you just have to enter your prereqs.
