Published

Hi there! Just wanted to get in conctact with other applicants who are applying to the Scholar Practioner Program at Nipissing University.

We could use this thread to talk about different components of the application.

Cheers :)

we are going to be classmates, ladies!! excited to meet you all!

Congrats everyone! I can't wait to meet you and work with you all next year! If anyone has anymore questions about the program, just let me know and I'll try to answer to the best of my ability!

Hey!! I just checked and my status changed to offered conditional admission!

OMG ME TOO!!!!!!!!!!

@futurenurse612

When you got your acceptance letter in the mail - is that when they told you about your placement (Sick Kids, PH, UHN)? How far in advance did you learn about your "schedule" for the 9 weeks of placement - since I know it follows a nurses schedule and not the typical university class.

good question!!

@futurenurse612

Do people ever have part time jobs while doing this program? Or do you think it would be too challenging? Thanks so much :) Still in shock I got in- very exciting.

Yes, I found out in my acceptance letter what organization I was placed in.

In terms of the 9 week schedule, it depends on when your educator emails you back (usually the last month of the previous semester), to let you know who your preceptor will be, and then you will contact them to find out their schedule. We have found that the schedule usually goes month to month, so for example I knew my schedule for February just a couple weeks before, and then I found out my schedule for March a couple of days before the month started. It really just depends on your preceptor and what their schedule is like and if they are the kind to pick up shifts or trade shifts with other Nurses, or if your preceptor is full time or part time. It's your responsibility as a student though to do at least 202.5 hours in your placement for the semester, and you are given an exact date of when those hours need to be completed by. (So this works out to 18 shifts that are 12 hours each, and you are allowed to do up to 24 hours/2 shifts a week which can be days or nights).

There are many people in the program who have part-time jobs! I myself do not, because I have a volunteer position that I do for a national organization, and I play in a concert band once a week. Other people have said that at times it can be stressful, but if you schedule your time well then it's doable.

I got in too!!!!! Congratulations guys!!!

Thanks so much for that!! Does the package we reiceve contain all the information about start dates, payments, etc? All the boring but important stuff haha!

Also I called Nipissing Admissions and they said that acceptance packages were mailed out today so we should get them in about 4-5 days, depending on where you live in Ontario!

@tamaraago Yes, the package (which looks really pretty and fancy by the way!) contains all the boring, important stuff haha.

I'm so sorry to bug you with more questions! If you get placed with TPH - do you know, by chance, if it is more of a structured schedule or do you also get to experience 12 hour shifts? I'm hoping to get into TPH, but I would also like to have the experience of 12 hour nurse shifts, etc.

At the same time, I also have a son (not sure if I'm the only mother that got accepted or is in the program) - so I'm slightly freaking out about daycare - and how that schedule is going to look! LOL
