Nipissing SPP 2020 Applicants

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi! I am applying to Nipissing's Scholar Practitioner Program for Fall 2020. I am really excited about it and would love to connect with other students who are in the same boat!

How is your application going?

Hello people!

I am not an applicant for SPP but I am for another accelerated program. I am wondering how y'all feel about COVID 19 academic disruption, and if Nipissing has a contingency plan for the clinical, as you guys have extensive clinical hours and that's where the learning comes from.

Thank you, and stay safe!

Congratulations on your acceptances! I'm still on the waitlist and I'm kind of losing hope tbh. I was wondering if anyone knows when's the latest they'll be sending out acceptances?

Hi there! Please don't loose hope! I emailed them two weeks ago, and they said they will send offers till august if spaces are available, but they could not tell me my ranking on the waitlist. I would suggest you to email them and ask if there are still spots left in the program. I think they send out offers biweekly on mondays. I believe two weeks ago someone on this forum said they receive the emails, and I got mine yesterday 4:20 pm. I have not yet received my official offer of admission, but I will let you know my ddl to accept the offer. I am also waiting to hear back from UofT. Have you been accepted to other schools? I really wish you could get in!

Be sure to log into OUAC and accept the offer from there. The nipissing system updates later than the OUAC site.

Hey! I can't remember if there are any upper years in this forum or not, or if anyone would happen to already know...I was wondering what the clinical rotations are like with the SPP program in respect to being exposed to different specialties?

Thank you for this @NurseAlden.

Please I would like to know the possibility of combining the program with a flexible part time job. How many days in a week are you free?

Hi! I read the 2018 Nipissing SPP forum, and there is someone from upper year answered this question around April 18th 2018. I believed she said that you will have a base (SICKKIDS, UHN or PUBLIC HEALTH) where you do at least 3 terms of clinical, and you get exposed to different units in the base hospital. Then you will have one term forced to do clinical at one place other than your base. Besides, at the final term you get to do clinical at anywhere your heart desires, even out of province. I hope this helps!

Where did you put down as your first choice? I really hope I could get UHN as I have been volunteered at Toronto general for two years, and I just really love the people who work there. Although we won't know our clinical placements until couple weeks into the inquiry phase of the term.

I put SickKids! I was a part of the Child Life program for a couple of years there and really enjoyed it. UHN is my second choice. Thank you for the info about the placement rotations!

We haven't been informed of any plans yet. Our program is very clinical heavy so I don't know what is going to happen. Has your school said anything?

@ameliawan @alittlebitofjessica

CONGRATS on your acceptances!! We have a facebook group, "Nipissing SPP Class of 2022". People are more active there so if you ever have questions you can always ask them there!

Hi, I'm currently a first year SPP student. We are still unsure about how COVID-19 will affect the fall semester, but I can describe how it has worked for us this year. Unlike other schools, there isn't a specific set of specialties that you rotate through during the two years. We are just randomly placed at various units in the base hospitals like Amelia described. Starting this past year, public health was also no longer a base unit (instead, selected students rotate through there for a maximum of one semester). Keep in mind also that UHN encompasses many different hospitals/facilities so there will be a wide range of potential experiences.

Hey there! Thank you for your kind words. I'm actually waiting to hear back from UofT as well!! I ended up emailing Nipissing and they said they will be looking at waitlist as spots open until August. This forum is actually so supportive, it so nice to see ?
