Nipissing SPP 2020 Applicants

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi! I am applying to Nipissing's Scholar Practitioner Program for Fall 2020. I am really excited about it and would love to connect with other students who are in the same boat!

How is your application going?

Hey! I'm definitely pro-NP path. I have two friends currently finishing up their NP degrees (one at U of T, one at Mac) and they both speak very highly of that decision, I believe both of them are in adult primary care.

I think the NP route is a great idea in Canada as they take a lot of the pressure off our healthcare system and the need for them will probably increase in the future. You get to autonomously diagnose and treat your own patients, and there are even some solely NP-run clinics now a days. The pay is very good and stable. As for doing an NP after SPP, I was wondering the same thing when I was deciding on accepting the SPP offer. Many schools require high undergrad nursing grads (3.7+) to get accepted into NP school, and I wonder how pass/fail grades would translate. SPP is still a very new program so there are probably less anecdotes from SPP graduates on future studies.

Other interesting streams after BScN are things like Clinical Nurse Specialists, Nurse Researchers and Nurse Educators. While we don't have CNAs here in Canada, you can become an anesthesia assistant or cardiovascular perfusionist if you're interested in working in the OR (after a certain number of clinical hours you can apply for these).

I've also been looking into CNA programs in the U.S., it sucks we don't have them here! I just had a question about your friends who are NPs, how much experience did they need before they could apply to UofT for the NP program?

I know ? I was surprised when I found out it was only a US thing!

U of T's MN-NP program needs 2 years of clinical experience as an RN prior to enrolment in the program (but not to apply- just 2 years by the end of the Summer before the September program starts). My friend graduated as an RN in 2016 so she had a bit more than the minimum.

Hi everyone! Congratulation on acceptances to nursing school! I am currently on the waitlist for nipissing SPP, and I would really appreciate if anyone who is not accepting the offer to let me know so that I am not losing my mind over it! Does anyone know if someone has gotten off the waitlist in previous years?

Specializes in Nursing student.

Hope you hear soon ?

Has anyone gotten off of the waitlist yet?

Hi! I am also on the waitlist, and I read the forum from last year, and people said they got a call from Nipissing. So far I have not heard anything, I think the ddl for first batch of acceptance was on last Friday. I am guessing probably this Thursday we will hear something! Have you applied to other schools?

Hey! I just wanted to let you know that I am not going to be accepting my offer for the SPP program. I ended up going with U of T. I wish you all the best! ?

That's great! At least you have other options! I applied to UBC and UofT other than Nipissing, but I have not heard from the other twos, so I really hope I could get off the waitlist!

Congratulation on your offer from UofT! I am happy for you, and I really appreciate you let me know so I am not that stress about the waitlist!

Hi everyone! Just thought I should let everyone who is on the waitlist know, I emailed admissions to see when they would begin notifying candidates of their acceptance off of the waitlist and their response was:

“Due to COVID-19 and the fact that we have restricted access to the University, we will give a little bit more time to process all acceptances to the SPP program. Therefore, we are not looking at the waitlist right now but will do so (if room still remains available), in the near future.’

So I am not sure how far out that actual date is, but hoping it isn’t too much longer of a wait!

Thank you for letting me know! I hope rooms will still remain available if they start looking into the waitlist. I am a little bit concern about the possibility of cutting the size of the program due to COVID-19.

Hi everyone!

CONGRATS to those who have already been accepted! I was also placed on the waitlist and just received an email today being offered a position in the program. I did accept the offer (as it was the only school I applied to) so just remain hopeful that they will be making more decisions and sending out more emails soon!! Good luck to everyone, and I look forward to meeting everyone in the Fall
