Night Shift (only twice a week) Advice

Hello,

I will soon start a part-time job, where I will work on Saturday and Sunday nights from 11pm - 7am. I have never worked the night shift before (I'm a new RN). Any advice for starting and getting accustomed to this shift? It seems harder than working nights full time. I also have two young kids and a husband I'd like to see every so often :)

Since this is only for two nights a week, it should not destroy your family life. Just make sure you are well rested before each shift and prepared to sleep, if only for four or five hours, after each shift. I always take a nap in the evening before night shift. I find if I sleep at least three or four hours before, I am rested for the shift. Good luck.

The bonus here is 1) the two nights are consecutive and 2) eight hour shifts. I'm jealous!

I'd really like it. I would try to get a good night sleep on Friday night then spend all day Saturday with the family. Work Sat night. sleep like the dead on Sunday. Threaten everyone to leave you to sleep until 3:30. Enjoy dinner and evening with the family. Sleep Monday until time to pick kids up from school or care. sweet
