I am currently working night shift on my department. I have applied for a day shift position and have an interview with my manager tomorrow. Just wondering if anyone has experienced this or may have an idea of interview questions I may be asked? I have heard it’s an informal and quick meeting but I am still nervous!

I would say my girlfriend or boyfriend or whatever that might be c/o having me working night shift. See if that will work. You will also need to leave an option to the hiring nursing manager by saying "I prefer night shift and that is my first choice." Just to make sure you are a "negotiable person."

Didn't you have an interview to get your night shift position already? I would think a schedule transfer within the department wouldn't be an actual interview, just confirming your interest in changing shifts. In my facility if you're the most senior person applying for a shift change, they just confirm when you want to switch. Good luck.

There are 4 of us with equal seniority applying for the position so they are interviewing each of us to decide. Thank you!

All 4 of you hired on the same day? Wow. How did it go and what did they ask? I've never heard of this.

Agree, this whole thing sounds super-weird to me. Everywhere I've worked, it's always been based on seniority. Setting up an interview to pick who gets it seems like it could be interpreted as favoritism, and in that case, why even interview? Surely the manager already knows all of the applicants, is familiar with their annual reviews, and has decided who will get it? It seems like it would create some hostility among the people who aren't chosen (again, due to the appearance of favoritism).
Not sure if you've had the interview yet, but if not, I'd try to highlight how working days would provide you with opportunities for professional growth (i.e. working collaboratively with the various specialties/services that consult on patients, being present for rounds, participating in procedures that are done primarily on days, etc.)
