NICU Refresher class in Bay Area ?

Published

Anyone? I've been out of work for 2years. Out of NICU for 4 yrs. I have more than 10 years experience as a NICU RN. can't find anyone to even reply to the apps I have sent. Met a Dr who works at KP and he said the manager of the Nursery there said they won't hire an RN if not worked in 4 or more years. It's a KP Policy....She sad I need to take a class through AMN and then she could hire me.

Well, just what is AMN? Anyone know? Or of any "NICU class" available for that matter?

I have never had trouble getting called back for jobs in AZ! Moved to the Bay Area and forget it! No one will talk to me here. Sheesh...Cali is NOT all that.... Really.

Sorry, venting... Class, anyone?

Yeah, the Bay Area is TOUGH. One of the worst markets in the US, even for experienced nurses. Did you do any research before moving here? Being out of nursing for 2 years will really set you back, honestly. Have you looked at any travel positions in the area? That might be your ticket. There are TONS of them, and they might take you, even having been out of the market for 2 years. Kaiser is a tough nut to crack, but they're really good to work for, and everyone I know that's with them is really happy.

Here's the Wiki on AMN: AMN Healthcare - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Check out the NICU nursing forum on here; I would imagine someone there would be able to direct you to refresher courses.

Thanks for the site info.

No, I did not research the Bay Area b4 we moved. Hubby got a job transfer and we just assumed I would get work without trouble....hah! The only reason that I have taken 2 years off is that 3 weeks after we moved to CA a kid broke my ankle w his rip board. Trimalleolar FX.

Took time to heal... I never thought that incident would end my nursing career!

I will look at the forum though, thanks!

And keep in good health!!!!

Ouch! I hope it's healed well since then. Good luck with your job search. I know it's rough. :arghh:

NRP and STABLE classes.? Where does one take these here, Bay Area?

i always did NRP at my hospital when working. Are they done on line now???

The written part is done online-I think its $24 but you have to do the hands on elsewhere.
