NICU's hiring new grads

Specialties NICU

Hi all !

I'm currently in an accelerated BSN program & I'm wondering if I can pick your brains on this. I'm aiming to get into a NICU as a new grad (I know how difficult that is). I'm just wondering if anyone knows off hand of hospitals that have hired new grads right into their NICU, or even the step down unit. I've heard of a few, but wonder what others do. No preference on the area, I'd relocate if the opportunity arises.

Thank you ahead of time !

If you had posted this 6 months ago, I would recommend my hospital. We hire almost exclusively new grads into our Level IV NICU. Due to other Level II NICUs in the area and state, they have been keeping their lower acuity patients that would have come to our NICU. I believe as a result we currently have a hiring freeze. In another six months, after we lose some nurses through attrition (retirement, travel nursing, NP school), we will begin hiring again at a slower rate (formerly 6-10 new hires every 3 months).

Thank you for the prompt answer ! Do you mind telling me what hospital system ? I actually won't be graduating until September so by the time I take my NCLEX the timing may just work out. I appreciate the guidance.

Anywhere in the state of Utah takes new grads into NICU.

Particularly Intermountain Healthcare in Salt Lake City. In fact, they have their new grad NICU residency open for application currently. It will reopen again in the fall when you've graduated.

Children's Hospital Colorado hires into the NICU as part of their new grad program. You of course will not be getting any of the sick patients when you start and there is a lot of favoritism when it comes to who gets the "good" assignments. I'm not familiar with other systems that hire new grads (we do not hire new grads into our NICU) but I would imagine that this is similar everywhere.
