NHRMC or Novant?

U.S.A. North Carolina

Published

Hi everyone! My husband and I are thinking of relocating to either Wilmington, NC or Charleston, SC, leaning more towards Wilmington. I have read some pretty mixed reviews on NHRMC, but not much about Novant - Brunswick Medical Center in Bolivia, NC. Does anyone have any experience with these places and could say if they like working there or not? I'm wondering about pay, nurse-to-patient ratios, scheduling, PTO, benefits, etc. I currently live about an hour from Philadelphia and make just under $27/hr. I have my BSN and OCN with about 4 years of experience - any idea what I might make at either of these places? Any info would be appreciated!

Can't speak for Brunswick, but I work for a Novant facility. I hate their upper management with a passion, especially that self-righteous CEO. This year, they fired a whole bunch of people per their VIA (money-saving) program, which has affected my work directly because we are now short-staffed to the point of requiring travelers, shortening new hire orientations, and offering double time to get people to come in and work. Pharmacy is also now crazy short-staffed after many pharmacists lost their jobs to the VIA program, and they now have difficulty keeping the Pyxis stocked and getting meds up to us when we need them. Don't know if it's like this everywhere in the Novant system or if it's just my facility.

I think the Novant benefits are decent. 6% match on 401k after a year and insurance prices are reasonable. I got a bonus last year and this year got a cost of living increase, so they don't seem to be on a pay freeze.

That sounds horrible, glad your pay wasn't affected at least. Thanks for the response.

that sounds like what is going at my facility/organization. Not Novant. sigh

Im not sure if you are considering moving, but I have to tell to you that Brunswick Hospital is a terrible choice. I work in this county, but not at the hospital and I have to tell you that I hear terrible things from my coworkers and my patients. They have an awful reputation and its in the middle of nowhere. Nurses quit left and right and just walk out. I would not be surprised if it is closed down due to lack of funding/profit. NHRMC is a much better choice. good luck!

I guess if you consider smack dab between Myrtle Beach SC and Wilmington NC "in the middle of nowhere". 45 minutes in either direction and you will hit a decent sized city.
