NFAP: Foriegn Educated Nurses Needed

the always interesting and influential [color=#334477]national foundation for american policy has released a new study, "foreign-educated nurses: a small but important part of the u.s. health workforce." the study details the vital role that foreign trained nurses have on american healthcare.

among other findings, the nfap's concludes:

- fears that foreign nurses would overwhelm the u.s. labor market and dissuade hospitals from active recruitment of u.s. nurses are unfounded; and

- the importation of foreign nurses does not harm the salaries of u.s. nurses.

Who says the NFAP is "always interesting and influential"? :) I had never heard of them before this article suddenly turned up in a couple different threads on allnurses ... However, a quick visit to their website shows that they have an obvious pro-business, pro-immigration agenda and bias, so I will choose to take anything they have to say on how immigration benefits (or, at least, doesn't harm) American nurses with a large helping of salt.

As Mark Twain used to say, "There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics." Nowadays, anyone can find numbers somewhere that will support any position they choose to take.

Yes, the article is biased. US has enough nurses. There is no need for foreign nurses. What the US need to do is to increase the faculty and improve the working conditions of nurses.

Basically, they are an ultraconservative Washington-based thinktank whose main goal is to support big business by increasing the availability of cheap foreign labor---at the expense of American workers.

I have a feeling that the posters who keep quoting their propaganda can't see the forest for the trees. You read something, and therefore assume it must be true! NFAP isn't as "influential" as you think, and their positions are certainly not supported by most American workers or politicians.
