Please give your opinions and/or experiences with new grads in a level one trauma center. I am applying for an internship that is six months long. I have no acute care experience. I was going to do the med-surg thing first, but haven't been able to find anything that works for me in this area. I was hoping you could give me some kind of idea of what to expect. I am so excited, but overwhelmed with anxiety at the same time.

Thanks

I worked in a trauma center that did internships for new grads and it worked very well. It all depends on the expectations of management. Our interns worked side-by-side with a preceptor for a minimum of 3 months and then were evaluated to see if they could start taking a lighter pt assignment with a buddy they could turn to as needed. I would definately ask questions before accepting the internship.

No problem with new grads in level one trauma center provided there is a good support system and extensive orientation and by that I mean 12-16 weeks.
