OK. I'm a complete, utter, total, 100% TARD when it comes to politics. I can't even read articles like this one. After awhile, I start to realize what Attention Deficit Disorder feels like cause the words turn into "blah blah blah blah".
So, is "obamacare" or more appropriately, are Obama's efforts now a complete waste and gone?
For the more politically inclined, what's this all mean?

I'm not a member of Web MD, could you copy and paste the article?
Edit: I found another article on yahoo talking about the ACA being voted down in the House of Representatives.
In order for it to be completely repealed it has to also pass the Senate and at this point it probably won't. They named the bill "Repealing the Job-Killing Health Care Law Act" :icon_roll

It's all a great big show. The Republicans want to look like they're keeping their campaign promises. Since the don't control the other branch of congress, they're safe from actually accomplishing any change which could help or hurt them, and this bill can't pass, even less be signed by the President.

A very clear explanation of what today's vote means is found in the article for which you provided the link:
"Today's vote was symbolic because the repeal legislation appears destined for defeat in the Senate, where Democrats maintain a majority. And even if the bill wins Senate approval, President Barack Obama would be sure to veto it."
So no, the ACA is not gone and is not expected to be until at least after the 2012 election, at which time 1/3 of the Senate and President Obama will be up for re-election.

I think it's just a waste of time. If the the Senate passed it, which they won't, the President will veto it. I try not to be too critical of the Republicans because I think they have some good points, but one goal of the new health plan is to make people healthier. This would reduce health care costs, and yes, health care jobs could be lost. This would be a good thing for the country to have a more efficient, lower cost health care system. I think this is just criticizing for its own sake.

The House passed the bill to repeal Obamacare, but it will be dead in the Senate because the Democrats still have control there.
More important will be the various legal challenges to Obamacare winding their way through the courts. Our Constitution does not allow for the socialization of healthcare; it's not an enumerated power of the Federal Government. At the very least, the mandate that everyone be forced to purchase insurance is unConstitutional on its face - the government cannot force you to purchase a product or service (assuming of course that we still live in a nation of laws with a government that is also bound by legal constraints).

Eriksoln, I genuinely enjoy reading your responses/threads. Just a gentle reminder that this terminology is offensive to some-especially those parents who have children with developmental disabilities.
Sorry to interrupt, carry on! :)

I'm ah.........politicaly challenged? Yeah, thats it. That works. Actually, I'm just disinterested in politics, but this stuff has caught my eye (for obvious reasons).
