Newly passed LPN/LVN no experience

Published

Hi. Is there someone who knows any nursing facilities in Los Angeles Area that hires a newly passed LVN with no experiencences but willing to train? Im having difficulties in applying since im a RN foreign grad and just challenge the NCLEX-PN Exam :/ thank you so much

Hello, it took me 1 year of applying after I got my LVN to land my first nursing job. I desperately applied everywhere possible and got the run around/catch 22 of 1 yr exp required outside of nursing school yet you cant get that exp without getting your first job.....I also desperately tried to volunteer to no avail. I really want to emphasize how hard i tried, and how desperate I was for a job. LVN in california are slowly being weeded out and the pay is going down. It not uncommon to be paid as low as $14 hour ($3 above min wage) at some places, although thats the lowest I have seen. Right now most places are paying about $17 hr or so I would say. Your job availability are extremely limited as well, its basically SNF or Home Health.

I think your best bet would be to list your RN out of country experience on your resume and use that to get a low paying home health job. Many of the home health agencies hire people on the spot because of their high turn around and low pay. If you could get in face to face with the interviewer and explain your situation, im sure they will hire you because you do have experience. The last home health job I had was $17 hr with no benefits at all, and paid $11 hr/min wage during training. To put that into perspective, people at in and out burger make about the same.

Thank you so much for your response :) sadly i also dont have experiences in the country where i came from because I immediately flew back in the US after taking the board exam for Nursing. :/

WHRe do you live? Is it also a SNF? I had a supposed to be interview but the lady said that i ahould need to have my license first before she interview me lol so right now, im patiently waiting for my license or just even my license number to appear on bvnpt site before applying :/ i dont know until when though :/ this waiting game is killing me

> is it also within los angeles county? Thank you so much

I live up in the northern Bay Area. About an hour north of San Francisco. We have a pretty good variety of jobs including home health, SNF, psych, corrections, hospice, drug rehab, and clinics. Pretty far from LA though.

Everyone will get their pennies in a bunch with this statement but oh well, do what you gotta do. That being said, just lie about your experience. They will have a hard time verifying out of country employment. Look what the economy has gotten to, people with education's need to lie to get 15hr jobs. It's either that or possibly never get a job as a lvn. I know several people from my class that got their license and never got a job, this was 8 years ago btw so I suppose I was one of the lucky ones but perhaps I should emphasize again how hard I tried.

That's why the pay is higher, cost of living is highest in the bay area. I'm sure 20 doesn't go far up there, 20 doesn't go far here in the ghetto of socal

It sure wouldn't if I lived closer to SF. Cost of living is high here but thankfully not as high as SF county.

Are you in Santa Rosa? I used to live there.

Hi guys, since bvnpt and brn are not giving plastic cards, do i still have to wait for the certificate of license before applying even though your license are already posted in breeze? Im worrying that they might look on it at the interview. I think its not that bad at all since some SNF in my area are hiring or looking for an applicants with no experience. Goodluck for me Lol I just really want to have a job right now so bad

thank you so much guys.

Haha, yes, I'm in Sonoma county.

im from SD. i'm currently looking for a job.

Goodluck! Just like you, I'm a foreign grad and once challenged the LVN exam. Prior to becoming an LVN, I had a medtech and caregiving experience in a retirement home which is the same place who then hired me as an LVN. I have also tried other facility but I preferred the one where I was previously working. Don't believe those who say that there's no job out there for new grads as that is just a hear-say not until you have tried your hardest and exhausted all the infos you can get. You can put your clinical exposure or volunteer experience than nothing at all. Also, being prepared in an interview at all times is a key despite not having so much experience at all. God speed in your journey! You can do it :)

Thank you so much í ½í¸Š Godbless

Newly grad LPN in the state of NH. Having a HARD time bridging to an RN program. 8 slots available yearly for community colleges. Private schools around the state are charging up to $30k (Associates) to $60k (Bachelors). Wondering if anyone gone back home to pursue a BSN for a cheaper amount? I'm Filipino, if that helps. I want to further my education but I do not want to graduate with a ridiculous amount of student loan. BSN costs around $21k back home.
