New York University (NYU) Non-Accelerated/ABSN Fall 2022

Published

Hey everyone I haven't seen a forum for the fall 2022 deadline for NYU's ABSN non-accelerated and accelerated pathway yet soo I decided too start one so we can all stress out together in these next few months of applying

Hello guys,

I just recently got my acceptance for the ABSN program in the fall. However, I have already committed to PACE’s ABSN program. I am really struggling making the right decision. I have conferred with friends and family and they are split it in half as well.
My end goal is to be a CRNA. I feel like NYU would prepare me for that much better than PACE. However, NYU is double the entire cost of my attendance at PACE. I do not know if that amount is worth the prestige and support NYU has. What would you do? I appreciate any input!

NYU is def not worth it. Go to pace.

Why do you say that

I’ve gone to NYU to my undergrad and for dental hygiene.  It’s a great school but IMO The school is scatter brained and it’s not worth double the cost of pace (if that is really the price difference that you claim). You will be an RN when you graduate regardless of where you go and if your goal is CRNA you will need to work as an RN in critical care for at least 16 months and acquire your CCRN. Going to NYU will just put you in more debt if that’s what you’re ultimately looking to do and you’ll be stuck paying private loans 6 months after you graduate.

I appreciate your input! I either hear really negative things or great things about NYU so I am still unsure. I understand your point. I will get the same degree and I know if I am committed enough I will get to the same place. I am terrified of debt LOL but if I end up getting into a CRNA school and passing I should be fine financially. Pace is definitely the more logical choice.

How much is the price of Pace for the program?

Congratulations! I would personally recommend going to PACE. Not only is it cheaper, its a shorter program that would give you the same credentials as NYU. I know the NYU name is ~fancy~ but it absolutely won't matter in the long run, as a nurse is a nurse! I do think you should go with your gut though, so if you really want to go to NYU because its calling your name go!

I've looked up the NCLEX pass rate for PACE and its 92-95% (depending on the campus). The NCLEX is 89% for non ABSN's at NYU and 92% for ABSN's at NYU.  I do not know the retention rate for these programs. Perhaps look on Reddit to gauge other's opinions regarding the program? Either way you'll be fine.

I haven't heard back from NYU but my friend got in to the ABSN program, so I figured I'd share their stats! They've all A's in pre-reqs ( one class is pending), she doesn't have any experience in the medical field but IDK what she said on her application regarding that front. Her accumulative GPA is a 3.1.

She applied April 1st.

Hope that helps!

What are your stats? I’m still waiting too. They asked me to send a picture of an IP course I’m taking and post it on the portal.

They asked me for a midterm report over a week before they sent me an acceptance letter. So you might be hearing from them soon. Good luck!

Hey random strangers on the internet here, I am a current student at NYU in the school of nursing. I just wanted to drop in here and give people a heads up about something that is going on lately with the clinical sites at NYU that they probably would not tell you if you were enrolling for Fall/and if I were dealing with it like people are now, I would wish someone warned me! So, lots of students are being sent out to Long Island 2 hours+ from the city in Mineola for their clinicals lately and since you have no choice in the matter of where you get placed, they aren't letting anyone change sites even if they can't get out there really early in the morning. It's pretty bad, and I know some people including me, looked for nursing schools where they can count on getting clinical placements in the city itself when deciding where they will go for nursing school. so just be aware that they are also seemingly phasing out many of the big hospitals like Sinai, NY Health and Hospitals, Northwell, in favor of the NYU hospital system - in itself, that isn't a big deal but they now seem to be placing a TON of people out on Long Island or in Brooklyn at their smaller hospital there where (from what I hear) support and immersion in the clinical environment does not come easily. I am thankful that I was lucky enough to escape this fate of being sent out to Long Island but many people I know from school are dealing with it and I feel seriously bad for everybody who is. So moral of the story, I just would recommend keeping this in mind and even asking about it ahead of time to admissions people if it's something that's a deal breaker for you. I think NYU's nursing program is mostly fine but the price is VERY high to get sent out of the city, and I just hope it doesn't happen to me next semester. Good luck everyone and congrats on getting in, and I hope wherever you end up you make it to RN status soon!
