Hey everyone! I am a new grad in new york city. After 2 months of searching, I finally landed a job at AMC (Albany Medical Center). Will start orientation in Jan. I am just wondering if anyone is going to work at AMC too. I just happened to know another friend of mine has a offer. :redpinkhe

Thanks for posting and congratulations on the new job. I was researching this hospital and it seems like a great hospital and especially for new grads. If you don't mind me asking, how much is there starting salary?

21 base rate per hour...few dollars difference in weekend, night, holiday...

Hello, everyone! :redpinkheI am going to go through some details about how I got a job at AMC. I applied about a month ago and I am pretty sure that on the website when you apply, you can apply up to 3 jobs in one application. There is no "check your status" with the AMC website. I called the human resources prior to my application. The employee told me that they are hiring new graduate nurse. So I went ahead and applied for 3 jobs and felt like I threw my applicaiton into the ocean (after a months of not hearing back). I applied all over NYC, NYS and all cross the nation. I have applied from NY to Wyoming, California, Virgina to Texas...Then I received an email asking me if I am interested in coming in AMC for an interview at the end of last month...I went for it. The unit I was applying for was awesome...I had a tour at the unit and met with few unit supervisors. I was offered the job during my interview. :lol2: On the side note, I know a friend of mine who is working at AMC, she loved it and highly recommend me to go for it. So I decided to take the opportunity and move to Albany next month. I really hope that this information will help other new graduate nurses who are struggling to find their first job. I know NYC is concentrated with new graduate nurses. I went to 2 job fairs last months and it was packed. My advice will be that if you can afford to move, do so and keep applying everyday. Don't give up! I know it is very hard and very depressing at times but we have been through nursing school, passing the NCLEX and the hard part is over. Looks like St. Mary's in Troy is hiring. I submitted an application online on the 12th and got a call today for an interview. So far, the only hospital that's called me back out of all the applications I've done online.

Hi everyone! I interviewed at AMC less than a week ago (although it feels like WEEKS have gone by!! I've been so nervous about the outcome!) for a PICU RN position. I'm a pretty new ADN grad (graduated May 2010)

So apparently AMC will hire new grads in specialized areas... I was excited yet very nervous... I spent the first hour shadowing a PICU nurse which was really great--got to see the unit and how it was run. For the second hour, I met with two nurse managers and CNS for the actual interview. They were really nice, although I was so scared!! They asked quite a few questions, such as why I wanted to be a nurse, why I chose this unit, what are my 3 strongest traits that would make me an asset to the unit, if I was ever sat down by a supervisor/asked to leave, questions about my prior experience, etc etc etc. They said it should take about 2 weeks to get back to me with an answer (HR needs to call references, etc). So I am patiently waiting!

I also interviewed at St. Mary's in Troy... I hope to get a call back soon. I am so nervous!!! Good luck--it seems like a GREAT hospital, you should def interview there!:yeah:
