I went to school there for the RN program and i transferred. I went to the Nursing Department with about a 3.75 and they told me i most likely won't be able to get in. Now I'm in Kingsborough and i got accepted and starting in the fall =)

Specializes in ER,Surgical ICU,Neuro ICU, OR.

La Guardia is awful. Thank god I'm almost done with this college. The lecturing professors seem like they are powerpoint readers and all they do is merely read the powerpoints and leave you to taech yourself. And you get some not so great clinical instructors. All the focus is on NCLEX only and nobody cares about the clinical skills. Thank god this place is cheap, its the only thought that helps me stay there.

I would like to know why dozens of Community Colleges and State schools across the country have stopped accepting International students for their highly competitive nursing programs, however all the CUNY Nursing Programs continue to fill their slots with International students. Specifically, CUNY La Guardia is filled with International students on F-I Visas taking up the coveted nursing candidate spots every semester. They only have room for a few dozens candidates each semester. To get in you are ranked by your GPA in your pre-req's. They are turning away people with 3.8's, many of them US Citizens over students who have just arrived and are on student VISAs. These International students will need to get sponsored in order to work in the US after they graduate, otherwise they will need to go back to their home country. Whereas, American citizens can fill these nursing positions and contribute to the American economy. CUNY Community Colleges are payed for with the help of American taxpayers, but we are educating and fostering and International workforce. CUNY is also turning away American citizen students who have high GPA's in favor of foreigners who might not even be able to stay or work in the US. Its time for CUNY Community Colleges to mirror the standards of other Community Colleges across the country and help contribute to strenghtening the American economy.
