Stony Brook University Hospital is hiring a ton of new grads all over the hospital and float pool because of Covid. They have a great nurse residency. Apply to unit positions and float pools! I was having a hard time getting hired in the NYC and Nassau county area myself and I got a position at Stony Brook. The commute is a little far for me but it’s worth it.

good luck!

Hello!

Glad to hear that you finally found a position! If I may ask, did you include a cover letter with your Stony Brook applications?

I’m not sure if I should add one or not.

Yes add a cover letter! And customize it to the facility you are applying to. Don’t send a generic cover. Instead stand out.

Good luck!

Start by going to the websites of places you would like to work and look for new grad openings.

Should I wait untill I get my NCLEX or apply for Limited Permit. I need opinion on this. I have been sstreset out about if I should apply for limited permit or not.

I don't know what a "limited permit" is. Not every state has them I suspect, but if it doesn't get in the way of you getting your NCLEX accomplished and if it allows you to get a foot in the door sooner, what is the down side to getting it?

All I have to do is to find a job, that  they would  have a RN to work with me untill a get the NCLEX to start to work on my own.

Generally that isn't how hiring in hospitals work.

Most hospitals put new grads through an internship or residency program and do not hire new grads direct to the floor. Some will hire you before you have passed NCLEX on the understanding that if you do not pass, you don't get to keep that position. Others want you to have your RN license ready to go. You will have to spend time investigating what hospitals in your area require.

If you are hoping to get hired prior to being licensed then you will need to look at hospitals that are independent, not part of a major hospital system or extremely rural and hurting for help.

Good luck.

Wait until your NCLEX. I understand wanting to get your applications in but NY major hospitals aren't hiring someone with no license during this pandemic. But when you do get your license, apply EVERYWHERE. It's not impossible like others might suggest, I just managed to get a tentative offer. But it is a waiting game! You just can't give up!

I was on the same boat 4yrs ago. I started in the nursing home and lasted 6mos before landing my first hospital job. My big advice to you is to go to open houses, I know somebody who is at nursing home for several years and went to a job open house and got hired at Mount Sinai. I on a different situation got mad being floated not knowing 40 residents I need to give medications to, I used that drive as a way of applying with tons of nursing position(like 150 in one sitting). Mind you I was giving 10am medications till 2pm! It was a rough day but that helped me. Also expect that in NYC there is a lot of politics, relatives and friends and referrals are the first one to get the job. Go to a recruiter who knows what they are doing. Also I was calling HR's and befriending every single person I meet during BLS class etc. it doesn't hurt to try just to get a referral. Best of luck!
