A new dawn, a new day, and a New Year. I pray this one is better than the last one!
I was awake at midnight, but still said to myself, as the first of the fireworks boomed out, "What the heck was THAT?" Then I realized what it was. Very thankful that Momo does not react to the noises. Kind of nice not to have to hold a trembling dog during fireworks, thunder, and low-flying planes or helicopters.
I hear Nannie stirring in her room, so I have to go take care of her.
Later--------
OMG. For the past hour, Nannie has been telling me about a man, and then it was a woman, who stayed down in the part of the backyard that is only woods in a deep dip in the property. I have told her repeatedly that NOBODY has ever stayed down in the woods. She's not convinced and isn't quite arguing with me, but keeps bringing it up. The ONLY person that ever comes into the backyard is the neighbor who does the yard work. Family members were here last week, so yes, there are times that there are people in the back yard, but no one who 'stays'. And NOBODY comes through the back yard, it's not a shortcut to anywhere; it is private property. "Well, what about when you closed the drapes?" The only time I do that is when dusk turns into dark; and a few times that Nannie has been uneasy about the our yard work person being closer to the house because he's either blowing leaves off the patio or trimming around it. But he NEVER comes in or even looks in through the glass doors. I am really sick of this so-called conversation!
Had to vent here, lest I yell at the poor old lady with dementia. She keeps chewing on her lips as she is trying to remember stuff (that MIGHT have happened over 8 years ago), and I tell her that I have been sitting in this same spot in the den for as long as I've lived here, and have even gone out to LOOK for her when she thinks the trees or the bird feeders on posts are 'people'. All I've ever seen out there are the deer, a fat groundhog, birds, squirrels and chipmunks, and the occasional stray cat. No one EVER comes onto this property unless they are family, or workmen, as in the time when we had the big tree cut down. She just will not let it go!
She also wants to go out and find some more pants like she is wearing today. She got up and changed her pants sometime in the middle of the night or morning, and is actually wearing the bottom half of a pair of shiny, satin-y pajamas that she got 2 or 3 Christmases ago. But she really likes them, so she wants more, in different colors. ?
And now she wants to know if she can go lay down in 'that room' . I said no, because it is only 5 PM and we will be having supper soon. There's been no afternoon nap today!
JEEEESH! ?
Happy New Year!
As planned, youngest ds and I did a plunge into a very cold lake. Youngest grandson came with us, and then we went out to breakfast. A very nice passerby took our picture and sent it to me. I'll post that in a few minutes. There were quite a few people doing a plunge. And we saw a rowing club as they were ending their session, pulling their shells out of the water.
We enjoyed the event we went to last night. They had yummy finger foods, and beverages to purchase. There was a live rock band, playing mostly '80s stuff, Journey, ACDC, Mellencamp. Dh doesn't dance, so I was doing a little chair-dancing. We stayed until MN, had a midnight toast and a kiss. Then home to bed. We saw some fireworks being shot off in the high school parking lot. The dogs didn't seem to mind the fireworks going off in our neighborhood.
It's overcast, in the 40s. High humidity so it feels clammy. Dh is snoozing in front of college football. I'm going to take a nap soon, myself. We'll go to watch the Sugar Bowl at 545pm. Go Dawgs!
Love the tuxes! You would not catch me doing a polar bear plunge! I was thinking about our clinical instructor who did because our clinical group raised the most money for whatever fundraiser it was supporting. Brrr!
I *do* think I would enjoy a hot tub on a snowy mountain, though...
It allegedly got up to 40 today. It felt cold but was sunny (bright!) and clear. Both boys are working. Twin B took a 3-11 shift today and Twin A has similar hours. Both have tomorrow off. Twin B says there have been 6 patients today who left without being seen. It has been steadily busy, he says. I *think* this is the last night for the "safari lights" at the zoo so soon Twin A will have daytime schedules. Which may be limited due to weather. We'll see.
There were a few fireworks just after midnight. Both dogs slept through them. We watched the celebration in Dallas that had the band Bowling for Soup. Also switched to other channels that had "older" music. Dallas also had fireworks and a drone light show.
I'm attaching a picture Hubs took at the lake Saturday. It appears that a raccoon tried to break in to the boat.

Dianah loved the video. Haven't seen most of those operas but it does summarize Don Giovanni quite well
Ado I hope you weren't needed at the hospital
Stars it sounds like you have been productive
NJ22 my cousin and her daughter do Polar Bear Plunges to support charities
Tweety the fireworks at midnight woke me too
Did the cooking before church yesterday, then to church to assist with the service. Relatively few people, given that it was NYE and also snowing a bit. Came home and baked the bread after letting it rise again, turned out good though didn't rise as much as I had thought it would. Watched some more of the opera too, was better in the 2nd act once the villains began plotting. Also watched Rudolph's Shiny New Year, which I remember from when I was young, was only OK. Exercised, then drank some prosecco before going to bed before midnight, although the fireworks woke me up for a bit
Today will try to get outside again, will try and dress more warmly this time. Not really a lot planned, will make waffle later (haven't done that in a long time) and finish the opera and watch some more of The Crown.
Will be another cold day here in the mid 30s
