Plan on untold hours of study, fast meals, and none existent family time. You will learn more in a few years than you ever thought your brain could hold. You will become frustrated, wonder why you ever thought you wanted to be a nurse, and question your sanity as well as your choice. It will cost more than you think. There are many unforeseen expenses. These hidden expenses like parking fees, gas, prepared meals, food at college, etc. never seemed to get into my budget plan very well.
Ultimately you will make the decision to follow your heart as well as your head.
Give us more details of your plans and I would be glad to help out as much as I can. Nursing is a very difficult profession and the rewards are sometimes hard to hold on to when the frustrating times come. It is also my chosen profession and I can't think of another field that would give me nearly as much pleasure.
I don't mean to be discouraging. I am a realist and hate to see students not prepared for all the sacrifices the education requires.
Best wishes. Keep us updated as to your progress.
Add to the above that the torture of the 2ish years you spend in school do very little to give you an acurate view of what you'll be doing in your profession.
The first year you are a nurse will probably be 10 times worse than anything you experiened during nursing school; even with supportive coworkers.
Also the job market is kind of poopy lately; thus any ideas of writting your own ticket irregarless of what your nursing instructors say, should be taken out of the equation. ICU nurse wanna be? Might very well be stuck doing nursing home care for a few years before the market turns back around.
I'm proud of what I do, but it frustrates the heck out of me often.
oh, i almost forgot, does anyone know whether or not they offer online schools or online classes for rn?
