New TEAS V Science Section

Published

Has anyone taken the latest version, the TEAS V? My test is coming up April 6. I have the ATI version V study guide, and the McGraw Hill book.

What should I be sure to study when it comes to the latest version of the test?

I used the McGraw book and found that it was very useful in preparing for the TEAS V. For the math section I believe that the ATI book is spot on with the level of difficulty for the questions I saw on my TEAS exam, McGraw was a little bit more difficult, but if you can do the McGraw then you are definitely prepared for the TEAS. For the sciences both books really helped me.

Remember it is not only the content but also remember to time yourself when you take the practice exams.

Would you be willing to sell your McGraw book?

Hiiiii I am registered to take my exam in 2 weeks, February 15, would anyone like to meet up at UH central library and hold a study session? We can pull our knowledge together and beat the TEAS V!:w00t:

I have been out of college since 2003. I have always done really well academically, but that doesn't seem to make a difference on the TEAS. I am scheduled to take it on February 5th. I have been studying the study guide and have scored an overall 89% on one of the practice exams in the book. I have been brushing up on science and will take the other practice exam later this week. I seemed to do really well on the reading, math, and language. The science was the difficult part. I've read that the actual science portion is even more difficult on the real exam, so I am hoping I do ok! The only consolation that I have is that if I fail miserably, I have one more chance to take it...

I am applying to Ivy Tech, and everything is a numbers game with the admissions process. Everyone is ranked, and the top people get in. I am applying to both RN and LPN just in case...and I am applying to a few different campuses. I figure I am bound to get into one! Then I just have to figure out how to pay for it. Money is limited when you have already have a degree..

That's a good idea. My advisor suggested applying for RN and LPN just in case. He said always have a plan B. I only used the ATI TEAS V study guide.

I finally got up the courage to take the TEAS and took it this morning! I scored advanced, 86.0%, in the 97th percentile. I was pretty happy with my score since I have been out of school for about 8 years..but I am wondering if 86% will be good enough?? I have all A's in my pre-reqs (even though they are from a while back). The math was super easy..the science was totally confusing. I had a lot of chemistry and some A&P - maybe one physics question. The way they asked the questions was just confusing to me. I actually did better in science than I did in language - which is very surprising because I scored 100% on the language practice tests. I had quite a bit of sentence structure and fluency questions. Apparently my opinion on the fluency of a sentence isn't the same as the test writer's. I have everything ready to put in my applications (applying to Lafayette, Kokomo, and Logansport) but I am just debating over whether or not to retry for a higher score on the TEAS..what do you guys think? Anyone else taken the TEAS yet? I heard the cutoff scores were really high last year...that worries me a little bit.

You scored around the same that i did on the actual test, which was 88.7% (99th percentile), and i also scored a 100% on a section (math) and only missed one question in the language.

To answer your question on whether or not you should retake the test...well, you scored 97th percentile, so you should be a smart enough individual to realize that you outperformed 97% of test takers in the country and it would be pointless. I think you and i both know you are fine...plus, most programs i've heard of only let you take it once per application period.

As the other poster mentioned, if you took the test in a group of 100 people, you would do better than 97 of them... Not bad. No need to retake.

Congrats and best of luck in getting in!!

Take the test again, if you have time. I took mine and got an 80%, then took it 3 weeks later and got a 96%. It can't hurt to take it again!

Thank you all for your responses! I haven't quite decided what I am going to do yet. I am applying to Ivy Tech and am allowed to take the test one more time, but I have to wait 30 days. So, that gives me some time to think. The rumors around the Lafayette and Kokomo campuses are that you have to have atleast a 90 on the TEAS and all A's. I don't know how the new version V is going to effect that. It's hard for me to believe that an 86 is in the 97th percentile, but yet you have to have atleast a 90??? Not so sure about that. Congrats Sltenbroeck on your score increase! That's great! Good luck to everyone that is applying this year.

Thank you hd-just keep taking the practice tests and study what you missed. If I can go from an 80 to a 96 you should be able to do the same. 30 days gives you plenty of time. Besides, if the norms are what they say,\ then an 86 is probably really good!

 i just want to say thank you all for your outstanding advice for the teas test v, i have taken the test before, nut not the version v. i didn't do so well, so i am now taking it again at my school in march, and i found out that they are now giving version v. i have the old study guide still. i really can't afford the new one. but, thanks to all of your comments and advice, i feel that i can study on my own, and with the help of my public library as well! but.....if there is anyone who just recently took the test, and can tell me what type of material is on there, i would be eternally grateful. i really want, and need to get into the nursing program at my school. thanks a bunch!! :redpinkhe

;)

WOW! That is so awesome! Congratulations!! I take the test in March, and I am petrified! Can you help me? Can you tell me what is on the test...I mean what should I focus on studying for. I appreciate it! Thanks! And great job to you once again!
