New Student taking 2 lab sciences this fall

Published

Hi, i am a '05 high school grad that is enrolled in 14 credit hours of pre-nursing courses this fall. my courses include math 110, bio 101, bio 210 (human anatomy), and english 101.

my question is, is this normal for a new RN student? math and english are the least of my worries, my biggest fear is taking bio 101 and bio 210 at the same time....

thanx for your help.

I actually took more and it was not an issue. Just make sure that you have enough time to study.

What a relief, you're a life saver.

My opinion is drop the A&P. Use Bio 101 as a chance to build your base of science terminology. Most nursing programs are now admitting based on GPA, so slow down and make sure you make A's in your sciences.

I agree, you'll get into nursing program much faster with a high GPA. I have many friends who took A&P with several other classes as well as Microbiology and couldn't get higher than a C. Needless to say most of them didn't get in because of it and have to wait it out until the next application period. I would take my time with the sciences.

If you are a good student you can do it. Just don't get behind. Take advantage of tutors. Overstudy for the first test. Then, see how you do and reevaluate if necessary.

Actually because of my high SAT scores i already have a spot for next year because this year was already filled. i just wanted to get a headstart on the courses just to be ahead of the game. i really need bio 101 and really want to get anatamy and physiology out of the way...

even if studying is my best friend will it be wise to attempt these 2 sciences along with the math and engl...??

the bio 101 is just basic high school biology though...

a LOT depends on your current situation. If you are working a demanding full time job, have a history of struggling with science classes, little to no family support/understanding, and living by yourself, then it wouldn't be a good idea to take all of that together.

If you don't have ALL of the burdon of supporting yourself (i.e. not paying all the bills yourself or not having to do things like all the cooking and cleaning for yourself), and you have at least one person you can turn to for support (even just to vent to) then that will make a BIG difference. If you have a fairly supportive current situation and you did decently in your high school courses, then your class load should definitely be manageable.

I am 29. My first semester of college (last fall) I took A&P I, Gen Chem I, and Eng/Psych. This spring I took Micro, A&P II, Eng II and another Psych.

So far I have a 4.0, but it was a lot of studying (well as much as I could, I worked part time and am a mom of 2)

It can be done if you have time to commit to it. You are fresh out of high school so you have a lot of it fresh in mind, plus the Bio courses will overlap a lot of info. For me A&P was easier than Chem or Micro.

You can do It. I did it with a full time job and made an A. You have to study very hard. I took my A&P book with me everywhere I went. At work I studied during the breaks. Make many flash cards. They have helped me. Go for it... :yelclap:
