New School Nurse in Fla

Published

:jester: Hello, I am going through and reading alot of posts on here and getting good information. I just landed a school nurse job at our Elem. School!! After I got over the initial salary SHOCK:eek: and how low I was going to be paid, I started getting really excited. After all, I have been wanting to take a more of a "make a difference approach, and MONEY doesn't always bring happiness attitude" so here is my start! I worked in pediatrics as a medical ast. doing back office duties, then also did home health peds for 2 years and 1 1/2 yrs Med/Surg. So I think that I am ready for this task:lol2: I would appreciate any of the Fla nurses input on school nursing and maybe important things to remember? I am so excited and can't wait to start!!!:nurse:

Welcome:balloons:

Thank you! I start this week!

Don't know if this will help with the salary situation, or not.....My job began at a certain "Grade". Don't remember the real number, so let's say "Grade 3" and the base salary was $13.00/hr. However, I only found out when the HR person mentioned it almost as an afterthought - said the county will count each years' experience you have as one Grade level higher, with a max of 5 years. For example, the base was "Grade 3" but since I had five years experience, I got moved up the grid five levels. I did have to send a form to my previous employers to have them verify my experience, but it was worth it. I had 3 months to get all the info back to HR. Still embarrassed to admit what I make now, but it's better than before!

Hope that helps!

Another FL nurse :)
