You should be alright...it's a military town. You could look at working at the NASJAX hospital. They also have a new contracting company that places nurses there. Just check with one of the nurses in the hospital, they will tell you what company.

There are jobs....even for some new grads. I have had classmates hired. Some were PCTs in that hospital first and that helped.

I didn't take my NCLEX until 2/7 and saw my license on 2/10....I am now looking, but in SC since my husband is stationed there!

Thanks, FL MOM..

I did get a job-- in St. Vincents ER. Starting tomorrow actually. Thanks for the good omen :)

I did AH II clinicals @ St. Vincents! I SOOOOO loved the nurses there!

FLmomof5, what school did you go to? I've applied to both UNF and JU but I still can't decide! I've been told to pick the school with better clinicals, but since there are so many hospitals in Jax, it seems students of both schools can get a well-rounded experience of a lot of different hospitals for their clinicals.

I went to FSCJ. JU is expensive. UNF is a good school but you will have to ride the orifices of the Financial Aid office...they will always tell you to "check your mywings acct" but they never update it!!! (DD #2 is a JR Criminal Justice major) UNF is tough to get into. DD#1 just applied and got waitlisted. She is a combat medic (4yrs AD now in Reserves), currently an MA @ Solantic and scored in the 98th percentile on the TEAS but didn't get in right away. She did all her pre-reqs at FSCJ (well, some at a college outside of Ft. Cambell when she was stationed there!). I don't remember exactly what her GPA was but 3.8 comes to mind.

I know that I did clinicals at St. V's, OPMC, Baptist downtown and Wolfsons. Shands was in the mix for FSCJ, I just never chose that clinical.

DId they only want RNs with BSN degrees? Will they Hire RN BA degree in psychology and AS in Nursing. I worked in flu clinic, and group home. Thats the only experience i have, but I graduated in DEc 2009.
