I work on a strict Med-Surg unit. We do not get tele patients on our floor. Our max is 5 patients (sometimes six) with a PCT. However, most days we only have 4 each and no PCT. Our floor staffs the rest of the floors so we are always getting floated to tele. Tele is crazy. You have a few young patients on tele but most of them are 80+, confused and half the time trying to get out of bed. You have to run room to room to keep them in bed. And the other time your phone is ringing non-stop telling you the leads are of on so and so. And ugh, I will never never work tele...

oh, i wouldn't worry about it too much if i were you. remember, this isn't high school anymore! however, there are "cliques" but in a good way! usually they are just a group of people who know each other better than others and have been working together for awhile. as long as you're friendly and don't talk about others behind their backs you will be welcomed! (:

"wiping old peoples asses to be blunt!" -x- sorry, this is probably not the right job for you then! maybe try a desk job or something. rns do everything that pcts do and more! maybe try going into a field that doesn't contain too many old people who need their ass cleaned (i.e. mom/baby, l&d, psych, clinic). hmmm - good luck.

hmm, it is a bit too early to tell but if i continue on this pace i should be ready to retire mid 50s! (:' which is a long way to go, mind you seeing as i just turned 24 on friday.

This is the kind of thing that happens when parents are uneducated and refuse/don't allow their child to get the vaccinations which can prevent most of these diseases. These vaccinations are pretty much free at a health department and do more good than bad (unless in some really unlucky cases with side effects of medication, etc). Just because the child down the street had a reaction doesn't mean your little billy joe will have the same reaction. Oh well, hope all goes well there!

The letter required Kaplan University to appear at a hearing on February 1, 2012, to discuss the performance of program graduates on the national nursing certifying exam (NCLEX), which has fallen below the required standard. As a result of the hearing, the program was placed on probationary status until the exam pass-rate improves. i don't really know of any professions that let you bridge over to a bachelor's in their program like with nursing. if you have a bachelors in accounting or something just bridge over and you can get a bachelor's in nursing. maybe look into it. i'm sure they exist. other than being a hair dresser, i have also been saying i want to be with a vet and work with animals. (: i did not pay for nursing school because i had a scholarship but eh, still it's been four years (2 as a nurse and 2 in school). i've learned other skills too though while in this profession.

Haha! We give dilaudid for headaches, stubbed toes, hang nails. That's pretty much all we do around these parts: push dilaudid.

1. missing an order for iv fluids on a patient who attempted sucide by ingesting whatever pills he could find. :-/ 2. removing cbi 1 day early (didn't see the order said d/c saturday) on a 18 year old walkie-talkie female. --who was discharged later that day.

okay, i voted before i read your entire post. if you will be working directly with heart/lungs then it would be a good idea to spend a little more money on the stethoscope that was made for use in that field! (:

hmm... you are asking for advice on what you want to do for a career. pretty broad topic, that is. just do something you're interested in. i've been a nurse for two years now and i've been saying a lot lately maybe i should have went to beauty school and become a hair dresser instead of a nurse. good luck with whatever you choose. but also, since you've only been a nurse for four months i'd say maybe stick it out. the field you are currently working in may not be it for you. (:

I actually had this happen to me a few weeks ago one night at work. I was feeling a little nauseated so I took a compazine then started freaking out and twitching and going nuts. Needless to say my charge nurse had to walk me down to the ER and they had to give me an Ativan which really still didn't help and I had to call into work the next night.

To determine gestational age because if it's past a certain amount of time it's illegal to perform an elective abortion.

Maybe they stopped this because antibiotics are not supposed to go into the subcutaneous tissue. They are ordered IV and even then they can be very harsh on veins. :-/ See an infiltrated IV from antibiotics? Not fun. Sounds like a deliberate extravasation.
